State capture inquiry begins

So, Zuma has managed to show up for this recusal application but you can bet he'll spin his excuse wheel as soon as this application is denied and he's required to appear as a witness.

He'll just have a failure to remember anything of any use, and spin useless conspiracy crap till the cows come home if he ever does have to actually appear as a witness

He's probably intending to Stalingrad this until the commission has no choice but to wrap up without his testimony. He'll then turn around and dispute the outcome because "he wasn't given a chance" to give his side of the story.

Yup, but that tactic didn't work for him with the initial State Capture report when he tried that in court... and it definitely won't work for him this time around either.

Zuma appointed Zondo to head the state capture commission. He saw Zondo as his friend which means he wanted a friend not to find him guilty. That is the whole idea of state capture. Appointing people who are loyal. However, because unlike the PP and the NPA, the state capture is live broadcast on television and a judge has to be impartial, it means Zondo can't be biased for Zuma.
Now Zuma uses the same reason he wanted Zondo to be biased for him as the reason he is biased against him. This is absurd.

It's CJ Mogoeng who appointed Zondo to lead the commission.
