State capture inquiry begins

Lol.. JZ got fingered by his cronies. No need to have JZ input on it. And he was giving his time to respond...

Maybe we need to get Putin himself to testify, but I guess he is otherwise occupied?

Aggg Jacob.. You can repeat the same lie a million times, but we all know that you're a corrupt treasonous bastard and chose to snub the commission because you also know how guilty you are.

A potential state witness deal?

  • The National Prosecuting Authority alleged that Molelle launched unnecessary or doomed asset preservation cases in relation to the alleged Estina dairy farm scam and the unlawful R1.2 billion in fees paid by Eskom to Gupta-linked McKinsey.

Yesterday's news,

Solidarity lays criminal charges against alleged state capturers

Solidarity has laid charges of corruption, theft, fraud and mismanaging state funds against 21 alleged state capturers. They include the former president, Jacob Zuma, the former chairperson of SAA, Dudu Myeni, the former head of Transnet and Eskom, Brian Molefe, the former chairperson of Denel, Daniel Mantsha, as well as the former chief executive of Denel, Zwelakhe Ntshepe. These criminal charges have been brought following, inter alia, reports and recommendations by the Zondo Commission.

Having obtained an order for the attachment of Denel’s assets to pay workers’ salaries, Solidarity recently undertook to leave no stone unturned to have the guilty persons prosecuted criminally.

According to Solidarity Chief Executive Dr Dirk Hermann, all the accused in the Solidarity docket were involved, at least on a prima facie basis, in criminal activities. “Residents have a statutory duty to report corrupt activities to the police. This obligation also applies to Solidarity, the more so if its members are direct victims. The Solidarity docket contain the most comprehensive charges that have so far been submitted to the police as a result of, inter alia, the Zondo Report.

I see they have given the NPA 6 months to start the prosecution... I am curious though where the NPA is at now with their own internal proceedings?

We need to go the stadium route if we are to make any sort of significant difference in fighting corruption.
Chief justice Raymond Zondo has found that the evidence led before the state capture commission of inquiry proves the Guptas executed a scheme to capture Eskom – and that they were aided by former president Jacob Zuma.

At this point, this is straight-up treason... Like WTF...

As the things stand, voting for any opposition party to reduce ANC margin etc is the only way to go. Nothing else is going to make a difference. Having said that, hopefully NPA will wake up and do something soon.

I absolutely agree with you here. We need to get the ANC out in 2024. Now or never...

Yeah, they should start prosecuting and arresting those mentioned in the Commission Report so far.

And they could hopefully use all of the parts of the report to finally nail Zuma on worse charges than he has now...

The question that the people of South Africa are entitled to ask is: where was the ANC as the Guptas took control of important SOEs such as Transnet, Eskom and Denel? Where were they? What were they doing?"

They (ANC) were building firepools baby!

People should be ashamed voting ANC...

They can't even get JZ in court... (I'm not holding my breath to see prosecutions)

What were they doing, you ask? They looted and destroyed along with Zuma, the Guptas and other cronies to the country's detriment.

The whole ****ing party was complicit. If I'm remembering correctly in one of the previous parts of the Zondo Report, it is said that the ANC as a party was complicit. I may be misremembering

BBC version:
While this report confirms what many South Africans had long suspected, the impact of seeing it in black and white cannot be overstated.

After years of denials from Zuma and his associates, this is in a sense a collective vindication.

But with it comes a deep sense of betrayal - that those who South Africans trusted to look after them after the brutality of apartheid, instead looked after themselves.

The DA is now in the view that those implicated must be criminally charged, and Mazzone said that she laid charges against every name mentioned (those implicated). Solidarity beat them to this some weeks ago by laying criminal charges against 21 alleged state capturers.

Mazzone was interviewed by eNCA,

the DA launched a dashboard some time ago, https://www.da.org.za/statecaptureconsequences, but there is not much on the site.

It is the NPA which must speak up.

That's the right view. Surely, those implicated can't just walk away scot-free from this?

Cool. Hopefully, their cases succeed with the help of the Zondo Report.

Highly agree, the ball is in their court now.

Yes, but the onus is on the state to pursue these prosecutions. Like Solidariteit, the DA is taking the initiative, but why do they need to take the initiative when this responsibility is on the state? The public needs to question this, knowing that there is existing cooperation,

DA welcomes long-overdue regulations allowing Zondo Commission to share information with law-enforcement agencies

29 Jul 2020 in News

The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the long-overdue amendments to regulations which now allows the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture to share information, records or documents directly with any state law-enforcement agency in South Africa.

the police and intelligence services, and the NPA, have no excuse to delay.

Cool. Hopefully, their cases succeed with the help of the Zondo Report.

Hope? It must, but their cases are likely to be taken under a collective consideration, however, the DA have opened cases against all who are implicated to this point. I think Mazzone said 34 or 44, I can't remember.

Highly agree, the ball is in their court now.

Tick-tock.

They might walk away scot free, being implicated doesn't make you guilty, we should not let the fact that Zondo commission was not a court escape us, so at best those implicated have cases to answer to.
