Stations seek cheaper boxes

I just tried again to see if I could get anything going, but nothing
But when it did show something, the quality was like normal Analogue TV but with no distortion. If you moved the antennae, the picture would freeze and make small “Digital Blocks”.

E-tv 2 just showed movies and E-tv adds.
SABC Entertainment also showed movies. (But the bad ever green or old family kind)
SABC International only showed news and SABC Education mirrored SABC Entertainment.

Blech. Wish I could afford me one of those huge ole dishes and get me some international signal. Better than this local carp by miles

I bought myself a Dual TV tuner card for my PC on friday.

What make and model, planning on doing the same thing

Gigo = garbage in garbage out. i guess their digital signal is just more stable and potentially better than the old analog

invest in DSTV..although come to think of it dstv aint all that great either...bleh..50 something channels and nothing worth watching apart from sport really, and movies u probably already seen
but discovery, history, bbc knowledge and national geographic makes it worthwhile..or thats what i keep telling myself

The cost is understandable; they've got lot of stuff to cram into that box; pinhole camera, microphone, transmitter...

If you want a vision of the future, Winston, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever.

:eek::eek::eek:;)

I took the cheapest I could find. I bought the Kworld HyperMediaCenter Tv Tuner. Even comes with an digital arial.

I would like to bet that in several years time IP TV will be the norm, and, unless a lot of horrible laws scupper net neutrality, there will be little compelling reason to watch government propaganda.

Which begs the question - why are we investing so heavily in this digital TV thing, instead of reusing the spectrum and resources for a proper broadband rollout?

jip..but will take awhile for that to filter down to shack level

My thinking is this, the government is scared of giving internet to the masses, why? because then they will get to smart to vote ANC, they prefer people at best having access to their mass propaganda

Oi that's quite rich coming from MWEB. Remind me what they charge for their "set-top" box.

For those who are still interested.

I did a scan over the weekend and found 17 channels. But only SABC1 worked. All the other channels just had sound with no picture.
The cahnnels were still active this morning
