I assume you know you can go to www.vodacom4me.co.za to check your data usage?

If not, register on 4me with your 3G number, go to my profile->balances and you should see (to within 3 hours) where you are with your data usage.

Hi,

What number are you supposed to use if you are not given a number with the datacard SIM?

The quick and easy way if you don't know your number - send a sms from the dash.

Two other relevant issues:

1) The dashboard not logging data usage correctly is being fixed.
2) A more real-time usage (better than 3 hours latency) system is being developed. Slightly longer time frames for this one as it's not so easy to so.

What stats should we use? If my dash show 40 MB and i log onto vodacom4me [a day later] and it shows 6 MB ..... So where are things going wrong? I phoned the callcentre and they also confirmed it's 6MB , so now i'm rather worried they suddenly dig it up when the bill arrive..is there any recourse if i look on 30 March and it says "10 MB" and then i get billed for 300 MB of data?

Also another issue with the dash i'm having:

1. Everytime i fall back to GPRS and return to 3G [something that happens quite often for me] the dash sees it as new sessions. So it gets tricky to gauge with the dash how much i used in the last 2 hours [unless i start my own excel sheet or use the windows connection monitor, which makes the dash redundant in the end].

PS i usually don't even notice the fallback to GPRS if i'm browsing, but i'm already starting to develop a healthy "anti-green-led" reaction. Blue is good, green is bad :p

Data Usage Info

I have been following this Forum since buying v3g in March, but could not see any progress in this regard. Still only had the Vodacom4me website.

The problem I have is that this is very outdated info. For instance, tonight I checked to ensure that yesterdays long lazy download and F1 streaming is reflected, but nothing.

So I phoned 155 and spoke with Candice. Very friendly and indicated that the information is normally very dated, and not the 3 hrs as indicated on the site.

She indicated that a better option is the Vodasurf on www.vodacomsp.co.za as it will indicate the date when last updated. In my case it was on 5 May 2005. More than 4 days ago!

V3G, any progress w.r.t the other options mentioned and also speeding the update of the information to at least the last 24 hrs?

Any other users, how do you monitor your own usage? I downloaded DUTraffic earlier this month, running in the background at each startup and so far so good. But would like to see it conform to Vodacom when they bill me. (BTW, my spell check suggested Vodacom to be replaced by Vodka :D )

SLB,

Have you followed the steps in post #2 in this thread? Do you still not get updates with 3 hours?

My usage is logged correctly on vodacom4me, and if I disconnect after reconnecting it looks like it updates after a while.

Yes, and apparently this is the norm of up to 7 days according to 155's Candice.

I just checked it again, and still only showing the update from the 5th with only 21MB used so far this month.

Ever since the 5th I have used both GPRS and 3G in Witbank and JHB areas.

I wonder what do Vodacom use for the billing. IE if it is reading 21MB for the 31 May, will the rest be carried over to the following month as the info was not available at that stage. Then I'll start 1st June with 400MB used already.

My Vodacom4me updates have been pretty accurate and on par for the last few weeks. One question though, v3g, what about showing us how much in total we have used over and above the cap ?

As for the Candice, some of her collegues in 155 disagree and a quick call last night had the update problem logged ? I still think there is a communication hole in the support desks within Vodacom, not reflecting on v3g though.

V3G, any news yet from the developement team?

It is getting close to month end again and we would like to know where we stand in terms of usage... ie use the last byte we are paying for.

Originally the guys were going to hack something together but like all good engineers, settled on re-designing the back-end systems to accommodate not only this but other pending requirements, especially pre-paid bundles that must be billed in real-time.

So, they've been building and implementing these new back-end systems. I was told on Friday that this is now nearly done.

I would like to register on the vodacom web site to see my usage stats. I am using 3G on my apple mac, so is there a way, other than sending an SMS from the dashboard (which as far as I am aware is not functionality available on the mac), to determine my cell number?

Easiest would be to put the SIM in your phone and call another mobile.

Done quite a few months ago, I can't even remember the URL anymore. Will need to search for it on the forum.

Anyone using it who can post it?
