Hey Guys

Quick question and I'm hoping I can find more reliable information here than from Telkom's Support Team

I'm on the Telkom 100GB Home Office LTE package. Signal is very good (4 bars) on the supplied Huawei B593 Router and download speeds vary from 35-50mbps. Problem is the Steam Client gives me a connection error saying it cannot connect to the steam network.

If I change to my backup internet connection, which with a different ISP, then there is no connection problems and it works 100% fine. As soon as I switch back to Telkom Mobile though, it stops working.

I have had different, and conflicting information from Telkom's support team regarding this.

1. First I was told that is should and does work... Well it doesn't. I tested and it looks like ports 27014-27505 is block in my 8Ta connection which is needed for Steam, if i'm not mistaken. Then I got transferred from department to department for 25 minutes, back and forth between Customer Care and the Data Helpdesk.

2. Then I got told that require ADSL (which I cannot get in my area) or a LTE business connection. This does not make sense at all since firstly "home office" should be classified as a business connection and secondly why would business customers get Steam access and not home users. Business users are not supposed to play online game while home users might just want to. :D

3. Then I was told they are looking into it and opened a "case file" on their system so the engineers can test this and get back to me.

So my questions is, do any of you have the same package and does it work with Steam.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions on this.

Kind regards

Johann

My brother inlaw run steam fine on telkom mobile pre paid 60+60 data promo.

Hey DanDango. Thank you for your reply.

I also ran Steam on a 15 + 15GB promo and it worked fine.

Since my upgrade to the 100GB Home office plan, it' stopped working completely.

I initially though it might have been the Windows 10 upgrade that broke things, but it also does not work on Windows 8 laptop.

Hi Ho3n3r.

That was what I was thinking as well. The steam website works but the client fails, no matter what I do. If I change over to a different ISP though, then the client works.

Mmmm... This is an odd one. I must be honest I've never used Steam on my PC via mobile data connections, so I have no idea what would cause this.

Try go through a VPN located in SA maybe? (Useful if you already pay for one - which you should be doing anyway, but not so much if you dont use a VPN already as you'll have to pay a couple bucks monthly for it)

I think they are blocking 27014-27505 as it is commonly used as torrent ports.

Whats your firewall security level set to?
Login to homerouter.cpe > Securty > Firwall level > Set to low
Then see if it works

@ johannvdventer, can you force your router to connect to 3G and try logging on

I can now confirm that although Origin works for installing BF4, I'm unable to join a game ... it give as "Check your network connectivity" message and then just quits the game as well.

Going to try the security settings suggested above but i'm sure I switched it to low ... I'll check though.

Security level on router is on low.
Windows firewall switched off completely at the moment ... no change

Trying switching back to 3G to see if that makes a difference .

This absolutely did the trick

Thank you ... much appreciated

I'll test gameplay tonight

Looks like these services are blocked on LTE but available on 3G

Good to know

That is crazy. So are all these deals blocked from downloading torrents and playing games?

What is the bloody point then?

Thanks for this thread, 4 years later it helps. I also was struggling with Telkom Lte, forced it to 3g and steam works. So glad i cancelled.
