I bought a game the other day from GAME, Silent Hill Homecoming for R80 (bargain)

Nowhere on the cover or in the manual does it say anything about STEAM.

So I thought actually buying a original game, means you don't have to worry about the cracks, virusses and schlepp to make the games work.

I don't have an internet line at home, so I had to use my cell to connect to internet. Apparantly I can't even install the game from the original disc without having to have created a STEAM account.

So about 40Megabytes of downloading STEAM-shiit, I decided screw this.
I haven't even started to install the game yet.

Do you know what a 40MB download costs on normal cellphone package!!!!

And it looks like everytime I want to play the damn game, I have to log onto STEAM.


Where can I find a crack for my original game?
 
Crying about it aint gonna get your game working. Figure out a way to get it working and then you can happily play it.
 
BAD:

1. Steam is going to update itself, which is going to mean some 50MB of downloading.
2. Steam insists that the game be updated to current version, which means that it is going to download game updates, all of them, before you can play.
3. There was obviously nothing on the box indicating that the game relies on steam.

GOOD:

1. Once you have launched the game successfully once, you put Steam into offline mode and you will never have to log in again.

I don't like Steam. But I suspect it's only really because we are being raped for bandwidth.
 
Unfortunately steam doesn't work in unconnected and low bandwidth environments. The publisher really should have mentioned on the box what you were in for.

However, steam with a real internet connection is incredible. Out of all the DRM schemes it is by far the best.

I wasn't crying. Only venting a little bit.

Looks like I'd have to bring my pc to work and download all the crap on the company's bandwidth.
 
lol, the same thing happend to me this morning...

...got modern warfare 2, and with this being the 1st time i installed steam, it wanted to download a lot of updates, and 3/4 way through my 3g connection dropped :(
 
Ya as mentioned above, steam works very well in a bandwidth rich area. I would much rather have steam than a company limiting how many times I can use my cd key to install or installing secret programs to send them data.

You can set it in steam that it does not update your games, that is only really needed if you want to play online :)
 
You need fast, cheap bandwidth. Lots of it.

Then Steam is actually pretty cool. I still wish you could choose when to install game updates, though.
 
PLEASE tell me that you dont HAVE to have steam for MW2 ???
