Steam Machine prototypes revealed

The benefit of a console is that a game has been tested on the specific hardware and will work perfectly because there is no (or very little) variation in the hardware. Also, there is no need to tweak graphics settings, etc as all the consoles are the same...

So why buy a steam machine over a PC? Cos it looks cool or for the controller? I just don't get it...
