Steam Machine

They want steam sales the steam deck won't be priced for profit. Maybe a little on the top but its there to help sell games.

Erm RAM prices gonna make that $1000 turn into $2000 esp now that Micron also done a F U to consumers.

Steam Machine is sooo screwed it aint funny.

In an interview with SkillUp Valve said they are not subsidising the hardware, so it will only be priced for profit.

Plus their devices don’t sell loads at all, the whole benefit of Steam is not being bound to specific hardware…

Valve will be fine. They already secured their RAM. Production lines are secured a year prior to production. They are not sourcing anything.

Same with PS5. They are sitting on RAM. Which is why they could even afford a sale as last as a week ago.

We end-users are ****ed. We will all be scraping the barrel soon.

The expected pop will not be because of shortages. Far from it in fact. Having no stock left to spare is the best possible situation for any manufacturer.

The expected pop will be when financers come knocking and investors ask to see returns. These data centers aren't expanding from money they had in pocket. They are financing it. Open AI is running at a loss right now. And it's the same story for many of them.

The Steam Machine launching at $700+ doesn't sound too bad anymore

That is a sublte promo. When it is not good, it is bad, when it doesn't sound too bad, it is still bad. "Not too shabby, hey Nige" /sigh

There is a problem with the Steam Machine, and it is conditional. It is hardware that has the potential to normalise a premium.

Not good times. Solving one problem, creating a new problem.

To quote Valve directly:

When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now. But the memory and storage shortages you've likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).

Both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame will cost more than anticipated. Valve selling their own products, mostly directly, would mean that the retail price will be set in stone. Given these shortages I don't see the price being reduced, whatever it will be, and we might not see an introductionary price at all. Valve have long launched their products with what is essentially a discounted, or onboarding, price. It could, and likely will, however increase. I do expect some PR surrounding the Steam Machine and Steam Frame.

What can also be read is that it doesn't seem that they had locked-in pricing. The currents have been moving since this product has been announced.

For now, I can't see the base model being below $799. At best, true discounts will be seen in bundles.

Us not being a direct market, neither a partnered market. Those wanting a Steam Machine here sal kak en met krediet betaal. Unless you are rich.

So... Valve is now hoping to ship the Steam Machine in 2026. It might come in 2027, and I don't think it would be a good idea to compete with the new and upcoming Xbox.

It’s a bit of a **** up now for the steam machine, I really hope it’s not over the top priced. Massive steam os fan !

Was looking forward to buying it.

It sold out within an hour. Paper launch? I know someone in Canada who bulked up on it in the cart. Maybe it was that popular.
