Steers vs Burger King

Our McDonalds (Stellenbosch) has recently become pretty decent. I've actually started going there for quarter pounders instead of going to BK.

Their burgers used to taste like card board. Don't know what changed.

That's because they generally are made of cardboard. xD

I was at McD's 3 days ago, never again.

We were gonna drive to this HUGE sweets warehouse to buy some goodies (lol, it was epic.. but that's another story) and we decided to get some food first.
We got this new BBQ burger thing. (Strand Branch)
Small and flavorless, is all I can say. Seriously I asked my GF why mine only has 1 patty, and only after about 15 seconds I figured out there was a second one underneath the first.

We both agreed that McD's patties taste flavorless...almost like it was "boiled"

The coke was also so watered down that it really tasted like water with only a *hint* of coka cola.
i'm starting to think though, that the Strand McD's branch is just terrible, and that it's not all McD's that's that poor... but since BK is pretty close by why even go to McD's?
The Strand McD's staff is also unfriendly... I can't blame the drive thru person for having a boring job, but please act a little friendly at least.

Also McD's doesn't update their site OR their facebook with their "new" offers (in the past you could at least go to facebook to see what new stuff they have) - poor form McD's!
Just 3 days ago I discovered they have a chicken big mac... wtf since when?

Shame keeper, that Barbeque Double burger or whatever it's called is actually very good value ... R30 for a burger, chips and a coke, in 2015? Obviously it's going to be 'small' compared to meals costing R55, but I've actually found that the whole package is pretty decent for a light meal.

The only trick with McDonalds is to not travel far from the drive-through, or preferably eat your meal there. The chips that are so delicious when they're hot become like rubber after only about 15 minutes, so it's something you have to be careful about.

The R30 BBQ special at McD is fairly decent value for money if you're just looking for something to fill the void, but if it wasn't for the BBQ sauce it would be completely flavorless. You can't find anything for that price that gives as much food unless you go to something like Food Lovers.

Speaking of which, our Food Lovers has burgers for R30 that are really good and come with a massive helping of decent chips. If you have time to stand in a queue it makes a good lunch.

BK is something I've never learned to love. Their patties are better than McD, but the sauce on their burgers aren't that good. I don't know if it's just the Stellenbosch branch, but it's very underwhelming. Good value for money based on size though.

Guys, Try the "Long Chicken" if you go to BK again, it's awesome! (and only R29 so not expensive either.)

It's like the KFC "Mighty Double", a wide chicken burger/roll KFC used to have 10 years or something ago (with 2 chicken patties, lettuce + mayo.) that has been discontinued.

Someone in the food thread mentioned Woodies at the Waterfront food market. Their burgers are really delicious and well priced.

Had steers last night for the first time in about a year...

It was manky in the extreme... the only decent part of the meal was the chips.

Last weekend we also had Steers after a year. Was okayish. We decided another year without us will be just fine.

Went to Burger King in the Norwood Mall about an hour ago!

Very under whelming experience.

Wanted nuggets, no nuggets, wanted doughnuts, no doughnuts.

Had an extra long chilli cheese sandwich which was pretty average (and not particularly long either)!

Immaculate store, decent layout, friendly well trained staff but that's where the compliments start and end...

Steers done right/to specifications>BK done right/to specifications...

Strip away the novelty factor and there is very little substance to the SA version of BK...

Similar experience.

No Wopper because no buns.

No milkshake because no milk.

I do like the taste of the Wopper, especially the double. I don't like their soft drinks.

The chips are over salted. The restaurant can be very noisy with staff talking across the room loudly.

I've had the opposite experience at the Pavillion branch. They always have what I
want.
One big advantage over steers is that I don't have to wait 20 min to get my burger. Usually by the time I'm done throwing my slip in the bin my burger is ready

Also one in boxburg, next to kfc,

I liked it, feirce whopper quite good.....
Not to spicy, not too plain.......

Free soda is cool, can just refill as much as you want.....
