Greetings to everyone on these forums:

Let me introduce myself first to clearify why I have made this new thread before people referring me to the pinned threads. I am not so good at understanding computer languages or jargons, when people says do this and do that. Therefore I require a step by step guidance, and yes u guys can say i'm a computer idiot. It doesn't mind as long i get the answer in the most simplist way.

I m using a laptop computer with Win XP SP2 and got my UTD device yesterday, installed the software first, then plug in the USB, logged in and everything was fine.
But there is something that is bothering me, there is like a network for Iburst, and it keeps on searching for IP, and latter on it just pops out a message saying that it cannot find IP or some sort of that nature. I closed that connection and then it also cuts off my internet connection.

Can anyone tell me that the hell is that and how do i fix it.

Also sometimes whenever i tried to network with friend my connection just keep on searching for IP (set it to automatic obtain IP) but sometimes it just doesn't get the right IP and tells me that i dont have any network capabilities.

I ask this because i wish to share the iburst with a friend, anyone could help me solve the problem in steps forms?

Additional Information: i got Norton Antivirus 2004, Microsoft antispyware, spybot blaster, Windows firewall are active, set my TCP/IP to automatically search for IP, clicked on the client for microsoft network, etc.

What's the exact message that you get?

Is it "Limited or no connectivity"?

If so you need to change the properties of your connection to disable that Windows XP message.

The error message states something as follows:

"You are unable to obtain network or internet resources, the cause of this problem is the network or the internet did not give or specify a IP for this computer"

I am using a non-english windows, therefore the error message above is my own translation. I apologise that i cannot give more specific than that.

However when i type in my own IP address in TCP/IP to 196.168.0.1 the error message goes away... should i just leave it on my own IP address or should i try to fix it somehow.

It wont remember the address when u connect again ( I dont think) . It is not a prob as PPPOE has its own protocol. There is a place 2 turn off teh warning , but cant remember where it is.

Sorry for the double post.

it also says "Limited and no Connectivity"

in the details it shows as follows:

Actual Address 00-C0-EE-C3-59-BC
IP address 196.254.168.132
DNS 255.255.0.0

Also my signal is 100%. but my connection is worst than 56 k. even the games i play on 56 k is faster than iburst... did i make a mistake in setting up iburst or something..

please help

yes, right click properties on my network places. Right click properties on the non iburst wireless connection (The one that keeps looking for an IP address to be handed to it)

Then unselect the two options there.
The limited connectivy or connectivy one.

Apply

Are you using an Ethernet cable or USB cable ?

Did you allocate that IP to the interface , if so , it is wrong as it is in the public routable domain.

Use an ip in the 10.x.x.x range or 192.168.x.x ranges. They are meant for private networks. Even better dont allocate an IP at all and find where to turn the error off.

Ok , lets get the errors 1st .
Limited / No Conect = Just cannot get a proper ip allocated , this is not the problem as a full tcp/ip stack is not used by pppoe.

2nd prob.
Slow conenctivity =
Where r u located ?
How far from the Basestation ?
If you connect up the USB cable what does teh Iburst program show that you r error rate is ?

What worked for me was moving my unit arround the house and finding my "SPOT" that go me teh best reception.

Keep the damn thing away from your monitor

Ok i've turned off the limited connectivity thing.
Thanks Alot :D

I'm 1 street away from Sunninghill hospital and next to PriceWaterHouseCoopers Building but i dont really know where is teh basestation.

The iburst program indicates to me that it hass 100% signal,
Frame rate error is 0.00% but occationally it jumps to 4 or 7
as for link speek its like always on 0 kps.

I have tried to download a bittorrent file.. it just does not move.
tried to log into warcraft server. it gives me some riduclous amount of latency, somewhere around 20000, while on 56k the latency is only 100-200.

That IP that was shown , did you allocate it ?

Gary.. the IP that i was refering to in my above post, was allocated by the computer i think.. i didn't type in anything.. i set the ip to automatic..

Could u tell me what to do in step form?

Bit Torrents and many other ports have been shaped, hence your lousy speeds. I am also in Sunninghill and no problems this side ith regards to normal surfing, ftp, http, streaming etc...
