I suspect that you have also aged in the past few years and that your leisure time has been otherwise prioritized as well. I suspect that a cinema is still a place for ‘younger’ people to socialize ;)

Yip, less available time to go. Used to love going to the one at cape gate though, booked a movie, had dinner somewhere around there and enjoy the alone time with the kids. But admittedly we haven't done that now in almost a year, if not more.

I blame government for letting things slide, and now this lockdown is just making people more destitute and desperate, becuse of their BAD decisions.
don't they realize how many people they affect when they say close cinemas/clubs/malls/restaurants ect...
its not just the worker, its everybody dependent on them, kids especially.

but again, why sympathize? you voted ANC, look what you got.

Yes, I agree don't break curfew but weekends are generally when people go to the movies. So at-least give them that, they can show a few films on Sat & Sun, even Fridays some people finish early. Just seems like its unnecessarily restrictive IMO.
 
Im curios, how would you guys run Ster Kinekor to make a profit and reduce pricing at the same time

Afaik this is pretty much part of most cinemas around the world. Cinemas wouldn't survive without that markup on food items.

Probably because there are only 10 people in the 100 seat cinema because of the ridiculous prices.

never said anybody who is still conscious voted ANC,
and lockdown is being lifted in many parts of the world by semi competant goverments that realise,
lockdowns COST money, people cant work, no taxes, no jobs, bad for them in the long run.

Introduce freebees just to get bums on seats.
Last week of release make the movie free but has to be 5 or more people. Standard popcorn and coke included at normal prices.
Use the bulk buy concept.

2. Did we not ease restrictions including cinemas, in line with most countries. I distinctly remember people watching Wonder Woman 84 at SK.

Again, even before Covid SK was already a white elephant.
 
All these problems would be solved if the govt could just procure enough vaccines to open the programme up for all. The focus should've shifted to mass-vaccination a long time ago, but the govt even get that right. Buying close-to-expiry vaccines in the beginning. Jeez.

again, our government acted impulsively and slowly to stem the tide of covid,
businesses suffered from their incompetence, people suffered from their incompetence, and the ANC couldn't give a toss.

as for SK being a white elephant, disagree there, in tough times, what is easiest to still do,
movies, if they thought through their business model properly.

I think its possible for them to compete with streaming, by offering an EVENT,
better seats, better snacks/food, and loads of freebies and lots of tie in deals,
like fill your car at engen, get a double ticket to the movies, things like that.

Yes, businesses suffered because of ANC incompetence especially restaurants but again SK does not fall into this category since they've had other challenges that is not related to covid.

There many versions of tough times but this specific challenge meant less people will go to the movies due to risk of infection.

Many just chose not to go regardless of what the ANC decided.

I'm one of those.

Not really, I've not been there in a long time. In fact netflix, vrv, hbomax and itunes has replaced the theatre for me. Why would I want to go there when I can do it all at my home minus 'theatre-kak'?

Nothing stopped SK or Numetro to go the streaming route. but no... we'd rather blame other things than innovate.

Used to as in before the concept of streaming or even torrents.
