Stop emigrating - President

more "talk" I don't see any action... zuma said crime is a problem, current stand in president says crime is a problem.. and? How is it being addressed? What is being addressed? What about the racist cops that tell us to **** off out of the country? What about that politician that told us to leave because we can't stand the level of crime in this country?

Effectively the people in this country just wants everyone out of the country, I mean what about the xenophobia? The immagrants comes into this country starts providing a service is that is required/non existent, the people here get jealous about this and forces them out... only to bemoan they cannot get access to this food/service... Where's the logic?

Now if the guys who are currently holding skilled position in Eskom/communications/Water/etc decides ok you want us out we take our services and leave... then what? who's gonna go ensure the nuclear reactor doesn't fail? who's going to ensure there's clean water all round?

Some people are selfish, they can't think further than their noses. Personally I think those are the people who should LEAVE!

To be sure, Motlante did start by getting rid of the two worst performing cabinet ministers - Charles and Manto. OK, its not much, but its more than TM did. And it still is an improvement from the days of Denial Mbeki.

Remember, this is government, and the wheels turn slowly. It is also debatable just how much government can do.

That having been said, there are a number of things I would like to see happen before I believed that real progress was being made.

1) End of BEE and AA
2) restrcuture justice
3) " " police
4) No Section 49 of the CPA
5) total overhaul of healthcare.
6) no more law forbidding discipline of children
7) No more tenders - tender process must be approved by all parties (some kind of board)
8) Different laws for gvt corruption - life inprisonment
9) Jail heads of companies that are destroying this country - Tiger brands etc
10) Take action against mad dog mugarbage
11) No more crying racism all the time.
12) death penalty once the justice dept is sorted
Should I go on?

Remember that the pres is accountable to his people. Secondly, he could start major projects that take more than 5 months, but there is no guarentee that the next pres wouldn't change them again.

So,
(1) I would love to see this, since I believe it goes against the spirit of the constitution, but it isn't going to happen, since too many people still support it.
(2) 5 months - not enough time
(3) ditto
(4) As in the use of force when arresting? What would you rather see there? It can't really be removed completetly
(5) 5 months. But Barbara Hogan is a good start, and by the looks of things she will probably start doing just that (not really Motlante's job)
(6) Agreed, but goes very much against the milieu - won't happen for a while.
(7) Difficult - tenders are already a big compromise and the PFMA is already almost overly prescriptive. What we need is better auditing and enforcement of justice.
(8) Agreed, but with anything that involves politicians, the Act will have to be passed by politicians.
(9) Many heads of corrupt companies have been jailed - think Masterbond etc... This is a matter for criminal justice, and AFAICS our courts still work pretty well
(10) What exactly would you see done?
(11) Agreed, but I haven't yet heard him cry racism. Actually, I've hardly hear him say anything.
(12) Will need a consitutional 2/3 majority. Not likely to be passed before the next election.
 
Compare and contrast with the article on IOL (now missing) about how black cops swore at white hijacking victims and told them to leave the country.

So Motlanthe's making a start, but it has to filter down to the man on the street else it's not going to work.

For me the biggest factor that keeps me here is that I still have an amazing quality of life, and no matter how large the salary I earned in England, I would not be able to enjoy the same quality of life that I have here (England doesn't have Table Mountain, or the beaches or the weather etc...).

Somehow as South African's we lose sight of this. There are plenty of foreigners who are choosing to live here, because they realise this.

Those things like the weather and table mountain has never mattered to me and probably never will. Personally I like the cold and you can find beautiful scenic places in most countries.

What matters to me is my safety and economic opportunities, neither of which is being met or looks likely to be met any time soon.

I also disagree with this one step at a time thing. Multitasking is key you need to be able to solve multiple problems at once. You can't ignore one and just concentrate on the other one since then you allow the other one to get out of hand.

Each to their own. However, there are still opportunities here, if you are prepared to work for a small company or be self-employed. I think the UK is going to go through a bit of a rough ride for a while.
 
It doesnt really mean much for the new president to say these things. When the next election comes along he is out anyway and JZ will be the new pres, then he will appoint his cronies and Malema and Duarte and Ngeni etc, who have already proved their inabality to run anything and it will be back to square one even if Mothlante is an efficient president who does a good job. Sorry, JZ is destined to sit on the throne, albeit hopefuily with a vastly reduced majority, he is part of the problem.

So true, our next president is corrupt himself. It is going to be very difficult for him to tell his supporters that only he is allowed to be corrupt.
 
This is exactly the problem in our beloved country...
THEY...
  • ...don't really care if we go away and the whole economy falls apart, THIS IS AFRICA
  • ...don't care about what we mean to this country
  • ...don't care if RSA turns into another Zim, atleast we(the intruders) have left
  • ...don't have the slightest idea of how to handle control and power
  • ...won't take away BEE, even if the youth of today had no say in apartheid
  • ...still hate us because of apartheid, even though they do exactly the same to us in a "civilized" way
  • ...don't realize what this country would've been without us
  • ...don't realize how bad apartheid could've been
  • ...just don't care!

...but it would be really pessimistic to that, because the majority of our citizens want a better life. It is just so so revolting to see things like that cop story

Crime is just as big a problem in townships and THEIR communitys, and they say "We want a better government, we want a better life!" but when voting day comes they still make that X next to the ruling party's name...

We are all so close to giving up, but it wouldn't be worth it, because it's not going to make a change in the way we want it to
Let's all just hope and pray that Mothlante rea;;y plans on making a change

I'm hoping that the powers that be within the ANC realise that Zuma is no good for president and opt to continue with Motlante. So far, Zuma certainly doesn't seem to be succeeding in shoring up ANC support. A lot of people are predicting this already.

The guy has only been in power for a month or two. He'll only be in power for a few more months. So he can play the safe game. He's probably no better than Mbeki who remember was highly regard by many months into his presidency.
 
Motlanthe is more of a conciliator in the mould of Mandela. His dignity and honesty are breaths of fresh air against the backdrop of the divisive utterences from the likes of Zuma, Malema, Vavi and Mantashe. However, he has never been ambitious and he failed to tackle the rot within the ANC during his tenure as its secretary-general. Nevertheless, he presents a more acceptable face as future leader of this country than any of the other buffoons who do their utmost to divide our nation on a daily basis.

The NPA is appealing against Judge Nicholson's judgment which ruled that the decision to prosecute Zuma was invalid. This appeal appears to carry some weight and I hope that it is successful. Why Judge Chris Nicholson was wrong - Wim Trengove. This lengthy legal argument, which claims that the grounds for Nicholson's findings were flawed, gives a good insight if you have the patience to read it all.

You are so correct. Every country is beautiful. There are wonderful sites everywhere and decent climates in most regions, and failing that, their is airconditioning in your house, office and car. However, there is not as much crime and so few economic opportunities in many places in the world as in
SA. I agree 100%. SA can't depend on its natural assets. Its nice dating a bimbo, but once she gets older, she will have to work with her brain to bring
the cash into the family and with SA this is not happening.
