Hi there!

I'm a new user to the forums, but have browsed through the messages here, and hven't found any specific solution. If this is posted in the wrong place, please move or delete as appropriate.

I'm working with an Acer laptop and an E220 USB modem, connecting to Vodacom's 3G service. Connection with VMClite works just fine, but some sites give errors or simply do not work correctly - specifically www.yahoomail.com (does not show full message text in messages) and wwwfacebook.com (does not allow posting). Other sites do work correctly, and www.gmail.com, funnily enough, works without a hitch. I initially had it down as a strange type of eror with javascript, and migrated from Vista (which was giving other problems anyway) to XP, but am facing the same problem with XP. When I plug the laptop into a straight DSL connection it works without a hitch, but the Vodacom connection gives errors with 3G and GPRS.

Can anyone advise me on where to look from here? Is it possibly related to Vodacom's proxy?

Many thanks,

Hmmm, what browser(s) are you using and have you tried clearing the browser cache?

I suggest you try using Firefox - especially if you're using Microsoft's Intranet Exploder.

PS: Welcome to MyBroadband :).

Thanks very much - I've tried both Firefox and IE, on both Vista and XP, and from DSL and the 3g connection. It works without a problem with both browsers from a DSL connection, but fails with both when using 3g (or gprs). I'd give specific errors if there were any, but unfortunately it just seems to fail silently. I have also tried clearing the cache, and disabling the firewall. Should I try with a proxy, and if so, can you recommend one?

Don't think it's on your side.

Phone 155 and ask them to provision your data number for the internetvpn apn and try that. Let us know.

We're seeing issues as you described and the vendor of the proxies have indicated they'll have a patch ready in a few weeks time.

I think you should try calling 155 to ask to have your SIM Card Provisioned for the internetvpn APN, also try using [searchforum]ginggs' application[/searchforum] which allows you to enter internetvpn before connecting whereas [depending on version] VMCLite might not allow you to do so.

WOW - I'm not the only one experiencing this weird phenomena

initial config -e220/vmclite/win xp sp2

I upgraded to windows xp sp3 (rc1) and I found i could not longer use web interface parts of facebook and yahoo, they just outright refused and showed me numerous scripting errors.

I found this only occured after the service pack upgrade, so I rolled back to SP2. all the problems dissapeared completely.

so i guess that doesnt explain why you were having those same problems???

wierd one.

-jon

p.s. the same bug appeared in Ie7/firefox/opera.

That worked like a charm - thank you very much!
Do you mean that switching to the internetvpn APN solved the problem, or do you mean that a System Restore in Windoze heXPee as suggested by Highroller solved the problem?

Switching to internetvpn worked like a charm - all is well now. Ajax the programming technique was giving trouble, Ajax the user was (to the best of my knowledge) not :)

Although the problem is obviously now fixed, I'm still a little curious as to why it wasn't working in the first place. AFAIK, Ajax really isn't any different from a standard web request from the proxy's point of view, so why would it block it? Or am I missing the point completely and it was something else entirely that was being blocked?

Something to do with how the in-line engines track the conversation. The internetvpn apn bypasses these so that 'fixed' it for you.

It's been escalated to the vendor (Cisco, I think) and they're working on a fix.
