Strange Problem, Any ideas ?

Hi

I got a c2quad pc at home intel Q8200 with 4gb ram, G31 mobo, 9500gt512mb graphics card installed with xp (yes i know its old but its comfortable )

i have a 4mb connection unshaped but for some reason my downloads are always slow, thought it was the line or isp at first but when i connect via wifi on the laptop i get line speed ....

my pc's lan port is blown so i'm using an add on card for the lan, could this the cause perhaps ?

i'm using utorrent and i've just reset it to the default settings which helped at first but back to slow again, i also have avast 5 free edition installed.

do you think any software could be causing my slow speeds ? or maybe its just the add on card ? i was thinking of a fresh install could that work or should i just install win7 and see if that helps ?

Does your ISP throttle p2p downloads?

no, i have an unshaped account with them.

i get full speed on the laptop connected via wifi

Have you tried the LAN directly (RJ45 port) on the laptop?
What wireless router are you using?

nah havent trying testing the lan on the laptop but thats a good idea !

i have the tenda wifi router, cant remember the exact model but IC only sell 2 the one with wifi and the one without.

ok, try the LAN on the laptop as this will help isolate the issue....
if that fails just borrow a friends tower with a working LAN port and test....
