Stranger Things - Netflix Original series

Just finished the season.

Kind of a predictable ending but it paves the way for season 2. The acting from the kids is very convincing, and the problems that the adults struggle with fit in well alongside the struggles of the kids, in a way.

I'm in the annoying Winona camp, somewhat. It seemed like her character was poorly defined and she didn't know what to do with her. Millie Bobby Brown though was excellent and I think she could do big things.

“Stranger Things” Creators Wanted to Adapt Stephen King’s ‘It’

By now, many of you have probably read that the Duffer Brothers’ show “Stranger Things” was rejected left and right before landing at Netflix and becoming the most talked about show of the summer. I’m guessing that pretty much every exec that turned down the offer is kicking themselves pretty hard right about now.

In an interesting interview with THR, the Duffer Brothers opened up that this wasn’t their first time with rejection. In fact, they’d previously wanted to try to do their own adaptation of Stephen King’s It, which is currently filming under the direction of Mama‘s Andy Muschietti.

“We asked, and that’s why we ended up doing this, because we’d asked Warner Brothers. I was like, “Please,” and they were like, “No.” This was before Cary Fukunaga. This was a long time ago,” Matt explains. His brother, Ross, elaborates, stating, “When we asked to do it was before, then he got on it afterwards because he’s established. So, he got on it and we were excited just because we’re huge fans of what he does, and one of the few people who hasn’t made a bad movie.”

However, they did have concerns. Ross worried about the run time, saying, ““How do you do ‘It’ in two hours? Even if you’re separating the kids, how do you do that right?” You don’t really fall in love with them the same way you’re going to when I read that book.”

Matt agrees, stating, “It’s like, “Could you be truer to the sensibilities of It if you had eight or ten hours?” We thought that you probably could more than if you were confined to two hours. At least that’s how we made ourselves feel better about not getting the movie adaptation. We still would have done it, obviously. I’m really excited about that movie. I think it will be cool.”

I feel like it’d be interesting to see the Duffer Brothers’ interpretation of It, especially now that we know they have a lot of talent in working with child actors who have to face monsters. However, Muschietti’s adaptation is going full steam ahead and I have a lot of faith in what he’s after. I mean, just look at Pennywise!

For me, Winona's performance might have been a nod to some of the off the wall characters she played in the 80's and 90's.

Intentional or not I thought she was great.

But the standout was the little girl who played Elle (11). She literally had to carry this show, and she came through with flying colours.

There was nothing wrong with Winona Ryder's performance, I found it very realistic.... having known a lot of neurotic mothers in my lifetime! :D

Drugged-out shoplifter?

Not a real person...she's a clone from Alien Resurrection :)

Since pretty much everyone has seen the top show now my next Q...(it's an interesting one)...what % of people watched it legally on Netflix vs what % "pirated" it rather for whatever reason that may be...

Watched it legally. Not sure if I enjoyed the show more or less because I paid for it. Probably more cos I felt I got my money's worth...But maybe less because I could have watched it for free

Watched it illegally although I have a Netflix subscription.

I only stream \ watch DSTV when there is no other option...I much prefer downloaded content.

I thought little Dusty was a cool kid actor. His lisp was so cute.

El was really good. For her age, she pulled it off quite well.

Finshed this awhile back and can't wait for the OST!!!Its quiet a decent watch for 2016.

Finished the last episode on Netflix last night. I wish the season was longer. I really liked it. Is Stranger Things going to be a bit like American Horror, where every season is a different story?

Not much is known right now, but it seems like they're going to explore more on the Upside Down next season...

Epic series. Usually kids in TV shows annoy the crap out of me, but damn, these kids, especially Eleven, deserve Emmys. The soundtrack is also amazing. I discovered The Bangles - A Hazy Shade of Winter through this show and it has one sick riff that is super addictive.

I do feel almost as if the story concluded well for me. I hope the 2nd season will follow a new path.

Just started watching this series last night and doing some binge watching to catch up but the acting from Winona Ryder is sooo bad it's a joke.
