Streaming issues on Vox?

Hi All,

OK so - joined Vox in March on Fatpipe 75G and Uncapped Bolt On on 4 Meg line (best my distance to exchange allows.)

All great, went well. Streaming up to 3 threads at the same time - Netflix & Hulu Plus through Android devices and Roku 3. Brilliant! Dropped Monochoice like a hot potato. Running 3.6Mbps on average with SAIX speedtest.

My connection is fairly stable - high attenuation, but manageable for reliability. Running Billion router.

All off a sudden since about 2 weeks ago I am getting a slow deterioration of my service.... buffering to no end on low quality with only one stream active - checked line stats - same as always. Checked with Unotelly - no issues from their side. Tried different DNS servers - no difference - in fact makes it worse.

Problem only starts occurring at 19:00 and worst at about 22:00. During the time I run on the Fat Pipe portion it is perfect.

Running on Willow5 - according to Vox only 75% occupied exchange.

Did hardware restarts, port resets and the likes to no end. Finally on Monday night my SAIX speedtest goes down to 0.5 Mbps down. Ping stays constant at about 20 to 23ms.

Phones Vox - battle through the first line of defense to restart, bla bla bla. Send test results. Line tested - no issues on their side. Account tested - no issues on their side.

The suddenly this morning I am informed that I need to remember that my Uncapped service is shaped and so on and so forth. I said hold the phone: and quoted from the website saying that it is an unshaped service. Waiting for the response as I think this is being escalated to management.

So now:

Is anyone experiencing similar issues on the Uncapped Bolt On?
Is it possible that they have changed their shaping policy on the Bolt On - since it cannot be taken in combination with the Fat Pipe options anymore (funny that my problems started at the same time this occurred...)
What am I to do and what are my alternatives?

I am not really a high end customer - I am not that bothered about quality - as long as I get decent SD quality I am fine. I would say my Uncapped data usage is also about 75G a month. Definitely not abusive.

Please help - the buffering drives me insane and my house uses the streaming constantly from 07:00 to about 22:00 for the kids, mother in law and so on?
 
very interesting. I have noticed dips in the service lately. im afraid more and more people are using the uncapped bolt-on now and lots are not as you put it, reasonable users. I cant remember if the bolt-on is unshaped though. hope you made screenshots of the webpages.

im monitoring as and when I remember. but performance is usually good peak times. when there is less people in the house ill do some gaming from 8pm onwards. that will tell me whats up. hope you get a good answer though.
 
Hi, i am using Vox capped internet connection and yes for the last 2-3 weeks the streaming performance is terrible, specially with Netflix and Hulu... Netflix is almost all the time running on 480p (and before was always running on 720-1080p) or hulu is constantly buffering... i am on a 8mbps ADSL connection.

Will see how it goes, i moved to Vox from Afrihost it was good the first few days and than now its even worst than afrihost...

not the same thing as unshaped. but ive seen the unshaped text somewhere.


With this Uncapped ADSL solution you get unlimited data from 6pm - 6am daily and it's totally open over weekends!

that's from the lantic website. I must be smoking something since im sure it said 'unshaped'. fsuck and I have no screenshot.

Yip, This is what we have been trying to prevent for a while but I guess you cant stop the storm. Too many new sign ups on high end lines killing it. Sigh :(

Ok so 20:45 now. Somebody now decided to change my sync rate down to 2mbps. No connectivity what so ever. Not even local.

Fan flippen tastic.
 
Did a quick test with Afrihost account. All fine. Thus Vox only....!!!
 
I dont know what the hell is going on anymore. Some vague issue on cables according to support.

Im in Pta east. Where are you?
 
Having massive latency spikes on bolt-on uncapped and fat pipe accounts. Gaming is impossible..what gives?
 
Have the hogs finally arrived? The plague of hogs that mess up every good product out there.
 
I believe there is a rep here somewhere - cannot recall the name though. Not very active I think.

Anyway - problem was fixed at around 23:00 for me. No proper explanation offered other than saying it is only limited to some accounts (maybe the uncapped bolt on)?

This just adds insult to injury. I am growing real tired of this real fast. The support is not up to scratch either.
