Hi,
So, many of us have Music, movies of photos sitting on our PC in a study or "
Batcave" somewhere in our house. While this might be the most efficient way of storing media, it doe not make viewing it particularly easy. In my house, I use my PS3 system as a "Media Centre", which allows me to stream my media over my Wi-Fi network wirelessly to my PS3.
There are a few programs you can use for this. I have used TVersity (Which is a paid for program), as well as Playstation Media server (which is free). Both work equally well.
Simply install the program onto your computer that holds the media and set up the folders you want to share. Once the media server is running, you should be able to find it on your PS3 by using the "search for Media Servers" option under the "Video", "Music" or "Photo" tabs on the main menu.
Side Note : Remember, that only supported video files will reflect under the Video Tab, so if you are under the video tab, and you navigate to the folder that holds your Music, nothing will reflect there.
What is really nice about both of these programs, is that they both stream to multiple devices. So if you have an iPad or Samsung Tablet, you can stream directly to the tablet from the PC as well.
