Streaming Media from PC to PS3

Plex compared to Universal Media Server? UMS is a fork of PMS (I beleive) however I was experiencing wierd frame dropping with PMS to my Android devices so I looked for an alternative.

Also what media server can I use on my home server (Ubuntu home)? I am using miniDLNA but it's kinda bad (or I don't know what im missing) the folder management is so bad.

would that support .mkv or .rmvb...i really need to watch some old stuff i have but it's format will not work straight on the ps3.

I can't seem to get plex installed, it won't download the whole installation file. Anyone got any idea of how to get it

I have a cheapo R500 dlink AP. It can stream 1080p to my tv easily, if the tv is the only device which utilises the wifi fully.

Windows media player (simplest since its built in):
1. Click on Stream, and "Automatically allow devices to play my media"
2. Also, go to "More streaming options" and from the "Show devices on" drop down list, choose "local network"

Its best to link your media folders with your Video, Audi etc libraries. Also, say if you brought a new movie home and you want it to pick up on your DLNA server for viewing on other devices, drop it straight into WMP.

Plex is also a good alternative. Link your folders in the easy-to-use web interface. Also, XBMC works as well, however you need to have XBMC opened on your server for it to be viewable to your devices

ok, so I set this up and it works nicely with the exception of 1 problem. I keep getting DLNA 2104 errors.

What's up with that? How do I fix it?

I have used plex and universal media server and get the same error. I have a wireless setup. Would it make a difference if I went ethernet? ( Connect my ps3 via ethernet to Router and use another ethernet cable to connect laptop to router?)

It's frustrating getting this error whilst watching your shows / movies.

Thanks in advance for the help...

EDIT: my router has UnPnP enabled and I've got it running through dmz. ( shouldn't that open all the router ports for that specific IP address?)

Did you try PS3 media server? If not try.
Also Ethernet is the way to go, believe me. Try it!
