Hey lads

So I went out and bought an HD-PVR to join my lonely 1131 :)

Now, the setup was working perfectly for a while and then the 1131 just gave me a message about a service not provided for (can't remember exactly what it said, but its something to that effect). I immediately thought its the heartbeat not being sent and received. So I checked it and indeed it was the case. When I test the hearbeat connection and go look on the screen in the lounge (where the PVR is) under XtraView settings it just says "Ready, but inactive". What do I do?

I've connected the RF-In on the PVR to the RF-Out of the other decoder. I've also checked that it is set up this way on the screen.

Any ideas?

You will have to phone them. Good luck with Multichoice support.

Thought as much. When you say "reset", do you mean restart (in which case, yes) or do you mean resetting it to factory defaults?

look at the forum on dstv.com, it is very good for trouble shooting.

*.dstv.com is blocked here at work :(

Guys is there a way to easily check which cable carries the heartbeat and which the secondary feed without me having to get back into the ceiling? I could have mixed up the two cables coming into the secondary when I took them out and plugged them back in

Inactive = Phone them and activate.

Make sure XtraView is activated or you could be charged for both subscriptions.
Whaaaaat???? :o

How would you explain losing the feed after about 30 seconds. I think I should defo's give them a call. My wife now tells me that when she spoke to them they did everything, but that she ran out of airtime before she could confirm to the lady that all was working. Could it be that the operator then just cut the XtraView from their side because my wife didn't confirm?

Could have been anything.

Best would be to plug one cable in and check on the status menu if it receives the heartbeat. If not, try different cable.

Other way is to unplug the cable(s) from the LNB/switcher/splitter and press your tongue on one cable in the bedroom, the one with the shock, is the heartbeat cable :)

Make sure your cables is in the correct connectors eg. heartbeat rf in/out and lnb to lnb, then give them a call and make sure.

go to xtrview settings on both decoders and run a heart beat test on one of them you should get a working if both are set up corectly

The PVR doesn't have a test feature, only the 1131. I thought about doing this already

does your 1131 boot? ss in can you see the channel names but not "see" whats on the channel? Does it scan finsihed? if yes then the lnb cable is right.

The HD PVR can run a heartbeat test...

Yes to all

For real? I spend quite some time in that XtraView menu and I could not see anywhere an option to initiate a test :(

if the 1131 goes on you can test it from there doenst matter whcih decoder you test it from both need to be on the xtraview menu and yes i remember that you can test heartbeat from the HD but will check when i get home

Oi, forgot to report back on this. The XtraView wasn't enabled on MC's side so the problem went away immediately when they activated it.

I've got three further questions:
1. I've read somewhere one can view the content of of the harddrive of the PVR on the secondary TV. Is that true? Where on the menu would I need to go?
2. I'm still struggling with how exactly to record stuff. For instance I set it to record something from DiscHD, but when I got home there was a bunch of other things (Carte Blanche and rugby highlights) which I didn't request to be recorded. I know it wasn't the wife because there's no way in hell she'd set it to record rugby :D
3. How does one delete stuff from the harddrive?

Thanks!

1. The only way you would be able to do that is if you connect the other tv to your PVR via aerial cable and use the remote extender thats the only way you can't "watch" a recorded program on the secondary tv and watch another program on the PVR at the same time.
2. Thats strange i know that the recorder goes a little over the time to make sure that you don't miss the show if it goes over time or starts late or whatever. you aren't possibly looking at DSTV on Demand?
3. You delete things by going into the recorded folder and go onto the program you want to delete and if i am not mistaken use the red button, it explains it on menu.

Regards

1. That sucks, never mind then
2. Yes, am I supposed to look somewhere else?
3. Will check it out when I get home, thanks

Thanks for the help. No wonder I was struggling to understand things :D
