Hello All - I consider myself as an advanced internediate amateur! I have just purchased a 3x 400W lighting setup with different backgrounds etc. and am starting out in the studio photography field.
My wife and kids are now fed up with me askingthem to pose etc whilst I play around with the lighting setup.

What I need is a lifelike mannequin that wont bitch and moan whislt I figure out diffrent setups with 1 or whatever stop differences for fill/hair lights etc

I see some sites in the US supply mannequins etc but they seem f***g expensive - let alone trying to get them here in SA!!! (http://mannequinmadness.com/categories/MANNEQUINS/)

I could use models for TFCD etc but I dont consider myself experienced enough without them starting to bitch and moan!!
What did you pros start with when you started out?

Any sarkie comments will be dealt with a swift blow to the back oy the head :)

You could always offer the neigbourhood kids sweeties to come to your house. Oh, wait... :o

TFCD models seems like the best option, but you can always take the approach that art students do. Find hungry students and offer them some money to sit/stand still for an hour.

Then again, you have a 10 second timer on your camera - you can always pose yourself!

Honestly, my kids bug me to photograph them. :)

sies, you're implying he should kill his wife and kids? no man!

There are other places to source cadavers... if you are in the know.

he can list himself as medical research facility and use cadavers donated to science.

I think the real discussion here should be the clear lack of discipline in your household :)

I would go for the student Idea.

Maybe get a student that is studying Photography, then pay them a X amount and teach them what you know.
then its at least a benefit for the student to hang around the studio for longer than an hour.

NB: don't get a hot semi naked blonde student, your wife wont believe ANY story you tell her
Just saying

Thanks for all the input - from some of the replies I think the straight jacket type hospitals are missing some patients!! :) - Still not sure how to practise light set ups - anyone, anyone??

Hey man, telling people on the internet not to make "sarkie comments" is a bit like waltzing into a hacker chartroom and telling them "my IP is [redacted] and you can't hack me".... ;)

plug the camera into a computer, use a remote to take pics of yourself and set up the pose via the computer screen?
