I just got a phonecall from a lady at ibust.

First she tells me my call is recorded and so on. After that:

She: "Sir, have you set up your email"
Me: "My ibust email?"
She: "Yes sir"
Me: "I canceled my ibust account months ago"
She: "Oh"

Then her next question shows you the level of competince at ibust:

She: "Sir, are you experiencing problems with your email?"

WTF? I am no longer a customer. Why ask me that? :D

At this point I felt the best way to get out of this is to just press the red button. Nuf said.

For quality purposes, your call may be recorded.

That is very scary. It worries me that they take the time to call a subscriber who has canceled months prior because to what extent does their system still record you as an active subscriber?

The only way to leave ibust is to close your accounts, change your name, numbers and address.

Good point.

Perhaps I should phone up ibust and tell them I moved. I have a new mailing address, new cell number, I changed my name and I closed my bank account.

:)

Your statement for the previous billing period

Trust me, its best to leave well enough alone here. You might open up a horrible can of worms by doing that.

On a semi-unrelated note, I'm becoming more and more interested in how ibust (and possibly other entities) are allowed to debit accounts for arbitrary amounts.

I am aware of the fact that they do not perform "debit orders" in the traditional sense. I believe that it is a "direct debit". How is it that banks allow this kind of behaviour because this appears to be a universal problem amongst people who have been bitten by ibust.

Comments anyone?

The reason I left ibust is their accounts department. But it would appear that their entire company is run on incompetence.

It seems you have to change your whole identity when cancelling with iBurst, anyone know of a good plastic surgeon?

I can like to are iBust, no ladies working here, just fools. We don't provide any e-mail services; hell, we don't provide any service at all.

Now stop implying that I are the weakest link, as I is clearly not!

Yes, leave me be ... I have 49 999 other subscribers to screw over ... I wipe my bum with your money!

Don't call me, I will call you ... NOT!

I don't take out arbitrary amounts. These amounts are well worked out according to statements and our financial needs. If shareholders start getting worked up over profits, we figure out (read thumbsuck) how much we need to make them happy, and divide it equally between all the subscribers. QED

This is word for word the same conversation I had with an iBurst person. Made me scurry of to my gmail account to find the prrof from them that states I have cancelled my account and owe them nothing. I am primed to send that at a press of a button.

Then for good measure I rechecked my bank statements to make sure they hadn't snuck in debit orders. The only reason why I keep bloody bank statements was because of iBurst as well.

I find it terrible that banks are so easy with debit orders. But I'm sure if you request your bank to deny any debit orders without your prior consent, they shouldn't have too much trouble doing that for you.

I got a similar phone call from them as well:

Generic_phone_bot: "Sir have you set up your email address?"
Me: "I think so, never used it"
Generic_phone_bot: "Okay...Your iBurst modem, do you use it to connect to the internet"
Me: "uhm...yes, I do" [at this point I had to hold back the laughter and the sarcasm]
Generic_phone_bot: "at iBurst we offer insurance for your modem in case it gets water damage or stolen...<insert more sales talk here>"
Me: "no... no thanks"

The call pretty much ended there. I didn't feel like telling the poor guy that I wouldn't stop the person who steals my Modem, that I perposefully place large glasses of water/alcohol close to my modem. To me the loss of the modem would be similar to spending R1899 on cocain: it felt good for a while, it was pretty great that first time, but now I regret buying/using it in the first place.

Cant they pull reports to see how many users use their email service?
Surely:
cost of management reporting software < cost of 49 999-n phonecalls

Guys, guys, guys, you're doing it all wrong.

Why not lead the caller on a merry chase with imaginary problems and setup issues? :D

After all, iBurps phoned you, so you can waste their time in retaliation :D

ROFLMAO.

Round 2.

I just got a call from Moses (who does not seem to know everything) asking me if I have set up my email yet.

So I told him that I have been phoned about this and that I am not a customer any more.

His reply was "So you have spoken to someone before".

I told him that that was not the point. The point is that they are phoning ppl that are not even ibust customers any more to ask if they need assistance setting up their email.

WTF!?!

@The_Librarian: I would rather not. What if they reactivate my account to fix the problem (me not able to connect must have something todo with this checkbox next to "active"...) and bill me for not paying for my "missed" months.
