So I took a new WRX, the 195kw not STI for a test drive last week. Thoroughly enjoyed it so went back and drove it again a day later.

Now thing is, I really want it, but I also really don't, if that makes any sense.

It drives beautifully, but I cant get my head around how many flaws it has that prevent potential buyers like myself from actually buying it. Its begging for a sixth gear, this is what bugged me the most, it has no highway cruising ability. A top speed of just 209km/h. In town it's perfect, and on the highway its just frustrating.

Interior quality is lacking, seriously Subaru, at that price R430k you'd expect better. And only a 75000km service plan, and according to the salesmen you'r looking at around 14K for the 100 thousand service. Ouch.

Problem is, I just cant stop liking the darn thing, its gorgeous.

That price is pretty steep for what you are actually getting. At over R400,000 you are entering the luxury market i.e. BMW, Merc and Audi. Obviously the Subaru has its own element, but definitely not at the top of my list if I was looking to spend that kind of money.

astro I also took it for a test drive and felt what you felt. The inside is very plastic like, but the power delivery is very smooth, and the wide body ones mean looking, but the interior is another story. Thankfully for me i cannot afford to buy a new at the moment, but if I was in your position I would be scratching my head as well.

You certainly don't buy a scooby for anything other than its power. If thats all you looking for in a car then she is the one for you.

However if you are looking for something with a better interior, features etc, at that price you can do way better. I test drove a Subaru when I was looking and I was less than impressed.

At R430k you can get the new 320i, with extras... Luxurious, quick enough (a lot quicker than the old one) and low consumption.

No brainer.

Top speed of 209 in a car that produces 195 kW? Who thought that's a good idea?

It seems the 'speed' is the actual pull off - and not the in-gear or top speed.

Things with these cars, is the drivers (sometimes) believe that can beat everything on the road. A friend is convinced he'd run with a modded 996TT

It's still really poor. I'd hate to take my performance car down to the track and hit the rev limiter at 209 with no extra gear.

Nope... didn't say that. Apologies if that's how you read it...but for R430k there are waaaaaaaay better options than a 320 BMW ;)

Look, I was just giving him what I think is a better option in that price range. If your opinion is that there are better choices, enlighten us please. No need to laugh at my opinion, telling me that I do not have a brain...

Aww dude...was just taking a stab at a BMW fanboy....I myself am a Scooby nut (and I wouldnt buy the WRX for that price...ppl are right with regards to the price and what you get) :p Pls dont take it personally ;)

Here's that link to some better choices

PS: I couldnt resist... :D :p

Patiently waiting for Fazda's sermon to y'all Subaru haters.

Subaru, numba 1!
Subaru, numba 1!
Subaru, numba 1!

:D

Look you buy a Subaru with your heart, not your head. It's the type of car you either love or hate. Subarus used to be the cheaper, giant-killing alternative. Now they're still quick, but not necessarily cheaper. And the other makes have caught up in performance actually, so they're not much quicker anymore.
Why would you buy one? Still quick, handles good, looks cool, and it's not a GTI/ BM/ Merc/ Audi. Those are all great brands, just pretty common.

My heart doesn't want to go 209 max :(
