My heart doesn't want to go 209 max![]()
"They're not the prettiest, they don't have all the bells and whistles, their build quality is also not the best, they are thirsty, they are expensive"
Fazda where are you?
I am surprised they sell any at all![]()
I think I read he works for Toyota now, probably won't see him in any Subaru threads from now on![]()
So I took a new WRX, the 195kw not STI for a test drive last week. Thoroughly enjoyed it so went back and drove it again a day later.
Now thing is, I really want it, but I also really don't, if that makes any sense.
It drives beautifully, but I cant get my head around how many flaws it has that prevent potential buyers like myself from actually buying it. Its begging for a sixth gear, this is what bugged me the most, it has no highway cruising ability. A top speed of just 209km/h. In town it's perfect, and on the highway its just frustrating.
Interior quality is lacking, seriously Subaru, at that price R430k you'd expect better. And only a 75000km service plan, and according to the salesmen you'r looking at around 14K for the 100 thousand service. Ouch.
Problem is, I just cant stop liking the darn thing, its gorgeous.
Can't speak for the others, but I'm not advocating doing that speed on public roads. Heck even a generic 1.4i can get you locked up, but that isn't the point. The point is that if you're forking out that much for a performance vehicle, you want it to be as good as it can be, and a top speed of 209 on a vehicle producing 195 kW is not as good as it can be. If I want to take it to a track, I certainly don't want to top out at 209As for performance, the"low" top speed was good enough to have one of my customers locked up last year - the car is capable of cruising at 200 plus day in day out, but whoever wants to do that is nuts. Possibly the most important thing about the performance is that it is able to keep up a very high speed, no matter how crappy the roads are - something you are not going to be able to do in your BMW or AMG Merc.

Funny thing, top speed. The Nissan Skyline GTR was governed at something like 185km/h in Japan. Which deactivates when you get to a track![]()
Fazda - Your "drive one and you will understand" in your sig seriously doesn't have the same impact as the Subaru one did.
Toyota "Drive one and you will understand why only old people buy them"
