Subscriber selected DStv channels demanded by customers

I don't understand how some of you will refuse to watch series if its not 720p, yet you will tolerate the resolutions provided by streaming. SuperSport streams are absolutely horrible.

Absolutely correct, we are far far far away by replacing normal satellite TV with internet. Yes you can download the movies,concerts, series etc, but as for streaming ... its a no go in most cases for even 480p , let alone 720p.

That's because we have to stream from overseas, through VPNs, etc - we need a nice big company (like IS or Vodacom) to bring Hulu, Netflix or something to ZA, where they can drop a cache in their datacenters and get 1 or 2 hops away from our ADSL modems. 720p would stream fine over that. Thinking about it, Telkom should do it... would be a great driver for ADSL sales.

I remember reading at some point Seacom was in talks with Netflix about bringing it to the entire east coast of Africa, wonder what happened to that.
 
How many of you would be willing to stream your movies and series at 320x240 res? Just because sport isn't your thing doesn't mean that nobody else should watch it. Nobody judges the stuff you watch so it's time to climb down off your little horses.
 
For me it's a matter of principle, and call me old fashioned or an old fart or whatever you like.

I don't believe in downloading pirated content, I purchase music, series or games on-line through whatever I consider a reasonable legal platform, I don't do torrents.

There are hard working people like myself, and probably like a lot of the members of myBB that work hard and create stuff with the intention of being rewarded for their effort at the end of the day. For many the medium for distributing said product/effort is through a commercial outlet that happens to make a profit from their endeavours, it's called business.

I'm willing to pay for the product, if I don't like what I'm being charged for it or don't like the quality I will look elsewhere. Now whilst many will complain about the quality of DSTV, my family and I get a lot of pleasure and entertainment value for it, so I'm willing to pay, and I hope that through the process some of my money will eventually filter back to the people that enabled me to share in the entertainment, and I don't mean the big super stars or the corporate CEO's but the cameramen and all the other everyday people that make it all possible.

Now if someone on this forum can point me in the right direction as to where I can get the same entertainment in terms of sport, series and movies at the same quality that I can watch on my big screen TV, with the minimum amount of hassle (all in one place) and where it is considerably cheaper than DSTV, then I'm waiting to be enlightened?
 
monochoice is laughing at us. they know we wont unsubscribe. so they just ram it harder. gonna switch to compact after olympics. will miss the HD though. demmit:mad:

I agree 100%. I am willing to pay for the products I want.
I expect people to pay me for my services and products, I they think that I am to expensive they can use someone else since I dont work for free.

All the people that download pirate movies and music, will you be willing to work for free ?

Sacrifices have to be made to put the Evil Company in their place.
If only more people would be willing to make the sacrifice in the short term to reap the benefits in the long term. :(
 
ICASA must open the market to 2 decent satelite providers, not the likes of Top(ple)TV. Say Sky from UK, ABC, etc... any of the larger broadcasters... this would make MonoChoice sh@t in their proverbial pants big time...

Come on ICASA, you schmucks, you're allowing a select privileged group of wealthy individuals to hold the masses hostage. Do what you did in the mobile sector, allow 2 more quality providers so that we South African can experience what the rest of the world has been enjoying for many years... real choice!

Or are we just another 3rd world African country?

Isn't there an extra license floating about with some company failing to lunch? There was no restriction on who could bid for those licenses (Ok, there was probably some BEE stipulation), so Sky could have bid if they wanted.

Yup, there's 2 licenses floating around afaik - but nobody seems to be able to find a company willing to take the risk to bring something here. Maybe CellC will snap up a license and do something, they seem to have grown a gigantic set and are certainly not risk averse since AKC took over. Plus they've just got a R1.5mil cash injection from an investor.
