Suicidal friend

It's tough. My best friend ended his life 8 weeks ago. He tried to take his life around 15 years before that. But no indications since. Depression is a diesese and it really needs professional help. We were the best of friends and had many close friends, he was about to propose, new job, new place. Not one iota of my being ever imagined him doing this again.

I realised that there was nothing we could really do, especially if he hid his depression which apparently he did very well.

Keep things open, and realise that strong depression never really goes away. It needs to be managed.

Wishing you the best of luck.

Thanks for sharing. I can't imagine how terrible it must be. My wife has ME/CFS, it is very difficult to explain to people that she is always sick. I've tried to explain to a couple of people but they still don't really come visit and doesn't really contact her. Doesn't seem like a sickness people understand, not even the doctors understand it.

Get her to try a meat and veg only diet for a couple weeks, there's evidence that some chronic depression is due to certain autoimmune disorders.

Not sure . Maybe find a sport to do with him or something. Might help clear his head and will keep him busy / motivated .

It seems some people are confusing situational depression with clinical depression.

Telling a person to find a sport to help clear their head is not going to go down well if the person is suffering from clinical depression...

I meant just try and find something to do. Don't tell him it's to make him feel better

Clinical depression is a recognised mental illness, Korn, it needs treatment like any other serious illness. A person trying to resolve it without proper medical help is unlikely to succeed, it's a bit like drinking green tea to cure cancer.
