Sam Allardyce To Take Blackburn Rovers Job - Reports
Big Sam is set to set back into the Premier League fold...

According to reports, Sam Allardyce is set to be announced as the new manager of Blackburn Rovers.

'Big Sam' is set to be installed immediately and should be in charge of Rovers as they host Stoke City on Saturday. The Potters are the last club Allardyce managed against - an FA Cup clash in January - at the end of his ill-fated stint as Newcastle boss.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Ton gaffer will succeed Paul Ince in the Ewood Park hotseat, who won just three times in 17 games.

Rovers are just one point above rock-bottom West Bromwich Albion in the league and will be hoping for an instant turnaround.

Allardyce initially wanted the Sunderland job, but the Black Cats have been linked with some high-profile European names and failed to make contact with eager Sam.

OK PEOPLE!!!!! Who wants to place a bet that Diarra gets no playing time at Real Madrid once Mahmadou gets fit - throws his toys out of his cot, moves to Barca next year round, gets sold by them bvefore the end of the first transfer window to Sevilla, with whom he does well and is eventually bought by... struggling French outfit (PSG would be my uneducated guess - don't know a bloody thing about the frogs league) and the cycle will repeat itself! LOL

Disagree.

I agree about the playing time at Madrid. He will play as long as the others are injured, unless he really shines there.

Barca wont buy him, Sevilla wont buy him.

Hope this isnt true, wouldnt want him to go to Real...

Real Madrid Lock In Sergio Aguero For Next Summer - Report

El Mundo Deportivo ran a story yesterday about how Pedro Tapote, a close friend to Real Madrid president, Ramon Calderon, had accidentally let slip during a conversation that the ‘White House’ have secured the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United for the summer of 2009.

Now, elconfidencial.com has speculated that Los Merengues have also closed a deal to bring Atletico Madrid’s star striker, Sergio Aguero to the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

Javier Gomez Matallanas wrote in his segment ‘Matador’ that Calderon has already reached an agreement with the Atletico owners to purchase El Kun by paying off his €60 million buy-out clause.

The rumour is also based on the information that Madrid’s executive director, Jose Angel Sanchez had met with Atletico’s general manager, Miguel Angel Gil Marin this past summer. Marin refused to sell the Argentine hot-shot for any price back then but sources close to president Calderon has revealed that the situation has since changed.

Aguero, however, had previously declared that he would never join crosstown rivals, Real Madrid while further assuring Los Colchoneros fans that he would only leave Atleti to return to his native Argentina to see out his playing career.

Just like the Ronaldo report, there has yet to be any official word or response from any of the parties concerned.

No its 2 different sources, they just mention the "close friend" at the start of the article.

Dont know if this will work or not. People seem to think that Henry wont stay longer than a season - and that he will retire soon. He has made that left foward position his.

Barcelona Mooting Van Persie Approach

Biggest mistake ever. Great player that he is - he is never fit and never will be. Everyone thought Robben would play more if he got out of the physical EPL - no such luck, he is still being sidelined more often than Ronaldo with PMS...

Spain Is My Favourite And Real Madrid My Team - Benzema

Karim Benzema has stated that Spain and Real Madrid are his dream destinations should he leave Olympqiue Lyonnais, but admits that he could yet remain with the French champions for another season.

The highly-rated 21-year-old has been tipped to join one of Europe's biggest clubs in the summer, and has made his first choice clear by reiterating his admiration for Los Merengues.

Madrid have made no comment publicly about links to Benzema, while Barcelona are also said to be interested, but the player himself has opted to promote the move himself.

"For me, Madrid is a dream. They are a club I have liked since I was small. But there are many clubs in which I would also like to play. Real Madrid is a great team and I have always said that I would like to play because they have been my team since I was young," he told AS.

"Besides, before I only liked Spanish football and that was all I watched.
"The English and Italian leagues are great, but there are more goals scored in Spain and where the best football is played. It is a good country for football and there are some big clubs there."

Benzema still lives with his family and that has meant that he is in no hurry to leave his home city or boyhood club, where he admits that he could yet stay for another season at least.

"Before I lived in a suburb where things were very difficult. I have been a responsible boy and I have fought hard to move away from this situation. I have always had my parents guiding me and they have been a great help. I have always been focused on my dream and I hope to continue to grow," he explained.

"Lyon is not the type of city where everyone loves football passionately, like they do in Marseille. But it is a great club that is making history at the moment. We have won seven consecutive leagues and our popularity is growing all the time in France.

"For the moment I am fine here. I cannot tell you what will happen in the next ten years, or even that I will stay with Olympique Lyonnais next year. It could all depend on how we do in the Champions League."

If anyone was unsure of Benzema's ability, he was asked about where he plays and gave an impressive description of what any prospective club would be buying.

"Karim Benzema is a centre forward through and through. I knew I had something when I was very young and I scored: I have a free role and can play all over. I used to like dropping back and winning the ball before passing it. I like to score goals, but I also like to set up my team-mates," he added.

Portsmouth prepared to sell Defoe

Portsmouth chairman Peter Storrie has said that England striker Jermain Defoe could sold in the transfer window.

Defoe has been linked with Manchester City, Aston Villa as well as former club Spurs who he left 12 months ago.

"It looks like Jermain wants to go," Storrie told the Portsmouth News. "If [he does] it will be at our price and if there is an offer which appeals.

"We have always said we will not keep people who do not want to play for Portsmouth Football Club."

Storrie added: "We do not have to sell anyone, but if anyone wants to go that is a different matter.

We have sold Lassana Diarra [to Real Madrid for £20m] and we don't have to get rid of anyone else if we don't want to."

Storrie also dismissed speculation about bids from Tottenham boss, and former Pompey manager, Harry Redknapp for defender Glen Johnson and striker Peter Crouch.

"We don't speak about transfers as a rule but this talk about there being a bid from Spurs for Glen and Peter is complete and utter rubbish."

Shay Given on his way? It's a shame for Newcastle because for many years Given has been their best player.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2009/01/02/tottenham-arsenal-and-manchester-ready-to-snap-up-shay-given-115875-21009929/

Shay Given is considering his future at Newcastle with Manchester City, Arsenal and Spurs ready to snap up the Republic of Ireland keeper.

His lawyer released a statement last night describing the humiliating 5-1 defeat by Liverpool as "the lowest point of his football career".

Given is also said to be disillusioned at the "turmoil on and off the pitch" at Newcastle, where he has been for 11 years and played for an astonishing nine bosses.

His patience reached breaking point with the Liverpool debacle, in which he made several world-class saves.

Given's solicitor Michael Kennedy admitted his future is up in the air and the likelihood is he will leave Newcastle this month.

He could cost up to £8million and his able deputy Steve Harper would get the chance to be No.1.
