This is going to be an interesting final round next week: any of the top 5 teams can win it. All it will take is to win while the other games end in draws, while scoring enough batting and bowling points to make sure of it. (The Warriors do have an outside chance as well, but they'd also need to score considerably more batting and bowling points than everyone else.)

To illustrate how close this competition has been: had the Dolphins set the Titans a stiffer target and had taken the last two wickets this weekend, then it would be Dolphins 1st and Titans 4th instead of Titans 1st and Dolphins 4th.

Titans: Must beat Warriors and score within 119 runs of what Knights score in the first 100 overs of their first innings, if Knights also win.

Knights: Must beat Lions and score at least 120 more than Titans score in the first 100 overs of their first innings, if Titans also win.

Cobras: Must beat Dolphins and hope Knights, Titans and Lions fail to win - but even then it is not in their hands. They must hope Titans don't score at least 57 more than Cobras make in the first 100 overs of their first innings; or Knights don't score at least 176 more. Cobras can still take the title if Lions win, as long as Lions score no more than 122 more than Cobras in the first 100 overs of their first innings.

Dolphins: Must beat Cobras, and score at least 54 more than Cobras in the first 100 overs of their first innings, and hope Knights, Titans and Lions fail to win - but, again, that still does not guarantee them the title. They must hope Titans don't score at least 4 more than Dolphins score in the first 100 overs of their first innings; or Knights don't score at least 123 more. If Lions win, Dolphins need them to score no more than 67 more than Dolphins score in the first 100 overs of their first innings in order to win the trophy.

What each team now needs to do to win:

Titans: Must beat Warriors and, if Knights also win, score at least 317 runs in the first 100 overs of their first innings. (Titans are in a very bad position as I type: 69-5, so scoring 317 is looking unlikely for them.)

Knights: Must beat Lions and, if Titans also win, hope that Titans score 316 or below in the first 100 overs of their first innings. (Given the current predicament of Titans, Knights are surely the favourites right now.)

Cobras: Must beat Dolphins and hope Knights, Titans and Lions fail to win - but even then it is not in their hands. They must hope Titans don't score at least 408 in the first 100 overs of their first innings (which Titans probably won't do given their current predicament). Cobras can still take the title if Lions win, as long as Lions score no more than 473 in the first 100 overs of their first innings (the Lions probably won't, but given that the Knights made 435 in their first 100 overs, it's possible for the Lions to throw a spanner in the works here).

Dolphins: Must beat Cobras, and score at least 405 in the first 100 overs of their first innings (definitely possible, but they've lost early wickets: 35-2 after 11 overs), and hope Knights, Titans and Lions fail to win - but, again, that still does not guarantee them the title. They must hope Titans don't score at least 4 more than Dolphins score in the first 100 overs of their first innings (though, given the current predicament of Titans, Dolphins shouldn't have to worry about this). If Lions win, Dolphins need them to score no more than 67 more than Dolphins score in the first 100 overs of their first innings in order to win the trophy.

Lions: Must beat Knights and hope Dolphins, Cobras and Titans all fail to win and that Titans don't score within 66 of what Lions score in the first 100 overs of their first innings and that Knights don't score at least 55 more than Lions in the first 100 overs of their first innings. (We can probably ignore what Titans will score, so realistically, Lions must score at least 389 in the first 100 overs of their first innings, which is definitely possible. Their batting has just commenced as I type this.)

Warriors: No longer in contention. One of their criteria was that they needed to score 299 more than the Titans in the first 100 overs of their respective first innings, and as they were dismissed for 187, this is not possible.

TL;DR: Knights are early favourites, the Cobras and Dolphins are still in it, too early to say for the Lions, Titans still have a chance but are digging themselves a hole, Warriors are out of contention.
 
Lunch update:

Lions are struggling against Knights (58-3 after 21 overs): with 7 wickets in hand, they are 385 runs behind. More importantly, Lions have 79 overs to score another 331; failure to do this will put them out of contention.

Due to the situation with Titans (explained further below), Knights are guaranteed of winning the title if they beat Lions. They are putting themselves into a strong position to do just this: should they dismiss Lions for 293 or less, they will be able to enforce the follow-on, which (weather permitting!) will all but secure them both the win and the title. (Lions require another 236 to avoid the follow-on with 7 wickets remaining.)

Titans are 137-7 and are all but certain to fall behind their 100 over target of 317. Should they indeed not achieve that target, they will remain in contention but, in addition to having to beat Warriors, will have hope for Knights not to beat Lions. As mentioned above, if Lions are made to follow-on, the only hope for Titans will be inclement weather.

Cape Cobras are in a similar situation as Titans: beat their opposition (Dolphins) and hope Knights do not win. Additionally, Cape Cobras need to hope that Titans themselves do not win (Warriors currently have an advantage over Titans, but that game can still go either way). However, they have a more pressing concern: ensure that Dolphins fail to score 405 or more in their first 100 overs. Right now, this looks like "mission accomplished": Dolphins have collapsed after lunch and are 88-5 after 27.3 overs.

As implied above, Dolphins are, along with Lions, in serious jeopardy. They must score another 322 runs in the next 72.3 overs to remain in contention, and they only have 5 wickets in hand.

My prediction: by the end of the day, Lions and Dolphins will have fallen out of contention.

Further update, as both innings from Lions and Titans have ended, and tea has been taken in Durban:

Lions have imploded from 58-3 at lunch to 87 all out. Not only does this put Lions out of contention, but it all but guarantees victory for Knights, and thus the title. Still awaiting to hear if Knights will enforce the follow-on, but I can't see them not doing so. (Update: Knights has enforced the follow-on.)

Titans were dismissed for 227. They will need to defeat Warriors (and with a 1st innings lead of 40, they have a good enough chance), but they also need to hope for Knights not to win, which is now extremely unlikely.

Dolphins are fighting back against Cape Cobras: 134-5 after 46 overs. They still require 271 runs in 54 overs with 5 wickets in hand to remain in contention. Should they somehow manage this, they will put Cape Cobras out of contention (advantage still Cape Cobras though). Whichever team remains in contention after the next 54 overs of this game will have to beat their opponent and hope that both Knights and Titans do not win.
