What's the point? Does anybody here use them and does it sway purchase choices?

I have one. It stays cracked open in the vent position - helps with fresh air circulation in the car. On sunny warm days I open it all the way.

They're great if they're OEM installed types.. the aftermarket ones are crap and should never be used.

Have an OEM one on my car. Loving it.

Won't be a deal-maker or -breaker for me when buying another car, but will definitely help me make up my mind if I had to choose between a car with, or one without.

It's awesome in winter, where I have the heater on and then open the sunroof in the vent position, all the hot air accumulating at the top of the cabin will be sucked out and the car won't feel so hot and stuffy inside.

In summer I drive with the aircon on permanently, but on some days I'll drive around with the sunroof fully open, just to get that feel of sunlight on my skin, and when I'm really in the mood for sun and wind I'll open the sunroof and both windows (my car is a 2 door model) - Major wind noise but the drive is awesome.

All in all - I love my sunroof :D

I'm not interested in a sunroof at all. If a car I was considering buying had one, I'd probably avoid it because I don't need the hassle of having something I won't use causing a problem.

Hardly ever use mine. Forget its there! My feeling is that the sun is is bit hot here on the Southern tip for sunroofs or soft tops. But is is a good way of ventilating the cabin.

For me it's a make or break when buying a car.

I wanted to buy a car at the end of it's life and there wasn't ONE in the country with a sunroof and the colour I wanted. Ended up choosing a demo with the sunroof in the colour my #3 choice colour

+1
had one in the past 3 cars I have owned and probably wont get a new car without one again

Been thinking about this myself. Currently speccing the M135i and cannot make up my mind if I want one or not. Always scared of leaks etc, but is so nice when they are open in vent mode. Also, scared it will be like a swimming pool. Nice for the first couple of months and then just become a hassle or sumin I am paying for, but do not use.

They are awesome and only people that think they are useless are those that do not have them. Except me, I don't have one but sure would love it.

It looks really good on the car. And you buying a BMW, at the very least you don't have to worry about it giving problems for 5 years as BMW will have to sort it out as part of the motorplan. I very much doubt many people use it, I don't but it makes a big difference to the look of my car (BMW as well).

I got a sunroof on the car, makes the car look smarter but don't really use it.

I've got one and my wife has one (well two actually). I don't use mine fully open often at all. I'll often tilt it on warm days for a while and then maybe just close it once the aircon is working nicely. My car has quite a nifty features of opening all the windows and the sunroof via the remote so quite handy when you've parked in the sun to open it all a bit before you get it.
In joburg I basically never drive with my windows open as well because either you're doing city driving and you're going to have to say no and stress about being smash and grabbed or hijacked at every robot or you're driving on the highway or open road and won't really want your window open anyway so sometimes it nice to just leave the windows closed and the sunroof open.
My wife on the other hand pretty much always drives around with the "inner" shade retracted so the sun shines in, which just annoys me so it's the first thing I change when I drive her car. Second thing is switching off the permanently on foglights...

I wish my car came with the option :(
Never mind the practical use, I'd get one because they (usually) just look awesome! :D

Both my cars came with them by default but I hardly ever used them.

Basically sunroofs are designed for European markets where they help to warm the car during winter. During European summers they help with cooling. In fact many entry level cars come standard with sunroofs and not aircons.

In sunny SA I find the open sunroof too hot and uncomfortable. We sometimes use it on summer nights as a "moonroof"

Also sunroofs don't get u any extra value come trade in time unlike leather seats and aircons.

If it's std equipment I have to take one otherwise you can stick it. I found mine, std equip, a waste of time and used it probably 10 times in 4yrs.
