why does the lions do this? why send a b-team?

That's the million dollar question. We will never learn. Like the afrikaans saying goes " Nie eens 'n donkie stamp sy kop twee keer teen dieselfde klip nie" Well they haven't met our Lions management.

Who's missing to make it the A-team? Jantjies is on parental leave, Janse van Rensburg's mother died, so think he's got compassionate leave.
The whole backline, except the scrummie, and the a side forwards mostly on the bench

Jaco van der Walt, Courtnall Skosan, Jacques Nel, Harold Vorster, Anthony Volminck, Shaun Reynolds, Ross Cronje,

Warren Whiteley (Capt), Cyle Brink, Kwagga Smith, Marvin Orie, Andries Ferreira, Johannes Jonker, Robbie Coetzee, Dylan Smith.

Replacements: Malcolm Marx, Jacques van Rooyen, Ruan Dreyer, Lourens Erasmus, Jaco Kriel, Faf de Klerk, Andries Coetzee, Sylvian Mahuza.

9 changes which includes 2 debutants? definitely a b-team.

He probably did send his best. But they definitely were not in the starting lineup.

Like Ackermann said,

Lions aren’t falling into the same trap

Johan Ackermann, the Lions’ coach, confirmed he’ll send a full-strength side to Argentina as his troops look to capitalise on a good start to the campaign.

The team’s brains trust controversially sent a B-side over in last season’s tournament to preserve the first-choicers fitness.

The people will think I’m crazy if I don’t take the best side,” said Ackermann after a 55-36 win over the Waratahs.

“I did think about it but it is too soon in the competition. We haven’t built up momentum yet.”

The Lions though will make the trip without Rohan Janse van Rensburg, who’s been granted compassionate leave following the death of his mother.

“We’ll let him have his moment with his family. We have to trust the rest of the squad,” said Ackermann.

Prop Steven Kitshoff will leave Bordeaux to return to South Africa at the end of the current European season.

Kitshoff joined the French club on a two-year deal in 2015, but with his contract set to expire at the end of this season (in June), SA Rugby swooped to lure him back to South Africa. SA Rugby allegedly asked Western Province Rugby for financial assistance to secure Kitshoff’s return.

According to Rapport, the 25-year-old was offered a national contract last week, and one of the terms emerging from the negotiations is that Cape Town union and SA Rugby have to pay an undisclosed fee to Bordeaux.

Kitshoff is the first player to return home after SA Rugby announced that only overseas-based Springboks with more than 30 Test caps will be eligible for national selection as of 1 July.

Absolutely ridiculous to drop the Cheetahs! How much money are the Sunwolves actually bringing in to continue to justify their inclusion when they are clearly not up to standard?

It is still, but only speculation. These proposals leaked on Wednesday/Thursday, and the meeting over the weekend is non-disclosed. Everyone are speculating on what may have been said, we are making speculations, the Aussies are making speculations and the Kiwis are making speculations.

All that I know is that Fox Sports have a grasp on the broadcasting rights in Australia over their 5 Super Rugby teams which is a hurdle to cut any Australian team.

I will rather wait until they have completed consulting with the parties involved, the Sunwolves being the only side which has no say in the matter, to see on what they decide.

How was Elstad not red-carded for that???

Firstly several pulls at the beard and then a fist to the face.
Yip, he can really do stupid things sometimes. Reminds me of Bakkies in his heyday, able to give away yellow/red at any given time. He will still cost the Stormers a game or 2 , when they can't afford that kind of play :(

Kings skipper: Ref was soft on Stormers

Japanese referee Shuhei Kubo had a look at the incident on the big screen and decided to award the Kings a penalty despite replays suggesting that the infringement from Elstadt - he gripped Lerm around the scruff of the neck and lunged forward with his fist - may have warranted a harsher punishment.

"I thought for a punch like that he should have got a yellow card, minimum," Ferreira said after the match.

"I think they got off softly there.

"Not to be negative on the ref, but I felt that he thought the Stormers were the dominating team so every 50/50 call went to their side."
