"I played the game, blah blah..." he says to an actual legend of the game and a legend of a coach? :rolleyes:

I hope he gets fired for this.
Not that he'd care or needs the job, he is a R60-something million+ BEE lucky jackpot winner after all, so.... *shrugs*

They are not wrong though, Elton in the Green and Gold succumbs under pressure… and when you are the pivot, well, that is how it is going to translate through in the set-pieces and phases.

It can be worked on though...

Elton is good on front foot ball. Sucks under pressure. Or bok pack wasn't great

Yes, the pack needs to produce ‘quality’ ball, but how it is delivered and executed seems to be an on-going issue we have at #9 and #10 . The pairing is an issue… a-hem, the same can be murmured about our #12 and #13 . I generally believe that our actual issue is team cohesion, poor leadership between 1-9, 9-15 and in our coaching.

I think that the coaches believe Elton to be the solution, mending the combination pieces, but without cohesion there is indecision. You know, pressure tugs you on the ball. Not to mention that the pressure build-up begins with the politics in our sports.

Yeh, he also didn't have the right men next to him either, people that are used to playing adifferent style of rugby. All cohhesion. Also asked to play a style he wasn't suited for

PS: I don't think that Mallet or Naas are remotely racist, and to be fair to him, he didn't say that they were - he said that they played Apartheid rugby and that they were patronising him...

Apartheid rugby...WTF did he mean by that?! Disparaging at the very least!

Naas Botha doesn't need lessons from 1 very average Springbok player who clearly lacks presenting skills as well as professionalism now.

Naas was voted Rugby Player of the Year in 1979, 1981, 1985 and 1987, set countless Springbok records during his rugby career and is still considered to be one of the Springbok "greats".
His career spanned nearly 20 years. Willemse's - 4

And Willemse?
Player of the Year, Most Promising Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year. :)

Taking race completely out of it this is not unique to SA rugby. You push young guns in with all the fanfair and they do fail from time to time.

The fallout though is amplified in our context when it comes to a player of color.
I actually think it is even more stressful in our country for players of color, because they are excellent and play an exceptional game, then get pushed due to political and other reasons to early into the prime spots and then fail, ending or limiting their careers.

Elton tried hard but did not do well on his first stab, he is a very different player now. Bok quality, maybe, but there are a lot of others out there that also shine brightly.

In the video clip one of them says to Willemse ""obviously you're a quota" or something to that effect, prompting some sort of meltdown from Willemse.

Willemse did not claim to have been a better player than Nas Botha. That Naas was a better player is not in question but is not the issue.
