Just watched the highlights of the Crusaders/Chiefs game. The Crusaders are just in another league (and without the likes of Kieran Read). They might as well just engrave their name on the trophy now and call this tournament done. They made the Chiefs look worse than ordinary. They made them look... almost South African.

I disagree. South African teams I feel are mixed with Northern and Southern hemisphere rugby. Bulls mixing it up with a kicking game and running rugby. Whereas the rest are trying the running game, but just with bad ball handling skills.

I'll agree in saying the Saders look good, but not next level, the Chiefs are just playing horribly this year.

I see there isn't much positivity in regards to his inclusion. The case against him has been postponed so many times now and even Tony Thorpe is supporting him in the case and is not like Lopeti Timani is attended the hearings. I think the two had a dispute and Timani received the worse, milked it, and now it is an assault case in New Zealand.

Just read some Australian comments on this and it doesn’t look good, many claims that he isn't allowed in Australasia. All I know is the case has been postponed, again, and that only lawyers represented both parties in the last hearing where both was absent.

The Sunwolves play the Waratahs in round 7 in Australia, and they don’t play New Zealand again in New Zealand so maybe the commentators are right (more or less). Maybe he is allowed in Australia but will be arrested in New Zealand, but I know very well that the latest media report on this highlighted when he would return to Japan so I don’t see him skipping on the authorities as they were then obviously aware (and by that, allowed him to return to Japan).

Anyhow, the Sunwolves will now have more continuity.

Derbies can be very stupid, yeah, but this year the Oz ones are actually really good (and they used to be the worst). The Rebels/Brumbies and Waratahs/Reds games were really competitive and fun to watch.
 
I see Jeremy Ward has been cited for his dangerous tackle on Specman. When I saw it I thought that's definitely a red card, but none of the officials were bothered by it.
I'm pretty sure he'll spend at least a week on the sidelines.

Waratahs boss urges SANZAAR to save Sunwolves

An Australian Super Rugby boss has called on SANZAAR executives to save the Sunwolves as World Rugby meetings ramp up in Dublin this week.

NSW Rugby chief Andrew Hore said Australian rugby risked dropping a big commercial opportunity if the Japanese team was sacrificed from the competition from 2021 to keep South Africa happy.

Hore said SANZAAR's investment in the Sunwolves was finally paying off, with the team notching their first away win this season and their fourth overall in the competition.
"Jamie [Joseph, director of rugby] has done a great job this year with the Sunwolves, they’re going toe-to-toe home and away, aren’t they," he said.

"Like everything, you just have to give things time. We’re excited by the Japanese and we enjoy going up there but there’s a lot of things they need to consider obviously."

SANZAAR partners Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina met in London on Sunday to discuss their position on an overhaul of Super Rugby for the next broadcast deal. The Herald understands that meeting also involved a major broadcaster.

But with Nations Championship (formerly known as World League) talks set to dominate World Rugby meetings in Dublin later this week, it is likely SANZAAR will reserve a final decision until Thursday at the earliest.
It appears increasingly unlikely that the two-tier, 12-team annual competition will get off the ground, with promotion and relegation an ongoing sticking point for the Six Nations unions.

In that case, it will come down to the four SANZAAR nations reaching unanimous agreement on Japan's ongoing involvement.

South Africa is understood to favour moving forward without the Sunwolves to lighten the travel load on South African teams, while Australia and New Zealand are said to be in favour of keeping them. Argentina's position is unknown.

Sharks centre Ward suspended for five Super Rugby games

Cell C Sharks centre Jeremy Ward was banned on Tuesday for five Vodacom Super Rugby matches after making a dangerous off-the-ball tackle during a loss to the Bulls in Pretoria last weekend. The 23-year-old marred his first start of the season for the Durban franchise by lifting opposition winger Rosko Specman and dropping him dangerously during the first half of Saturday's game. While none of the referees noticed the incident, Ward was cited after an official later watched a replay of the round 4 match.

A statement from the organisers said the foul could have carried a 10-week ban, but mitigating factors included the relative inexperience of Ward, his remorse and a guilty plea. He will miss both home matches against the Melbourne Rebels and the Bulls, the trip to Johannesburg to play the Lions and the Jaguares' and the Queensland Reds' visits to Kings Park. Sharks have an obvious inside centre replacement in Springbok Andre Esterhuizen, who wore the No 12 shirt in the first three rounds before being dropped to the bench. Robert Du Preez's outfit have won twice and lost twice this season, placing them fifth in the combined standings and second in the South African conference.

That's like half a season for a slightly dodgy tackle.(It should be one or two games)These administrators that have never played rugby before in their lifes are ruining a good game

Sanctions after a game is almost already too far.

At least the decision is on par with a lot of ref displays yet again ........ monkeys are out of control on all the wrong things while ignoring other things :rolleyes:

Has he been in trouble with the law before? 5 weeks seems totally ludicrous for that 'tackle'. Looks like they wanted 10 weeks but he showed remorse blah blah blah and got a reduced ban of 5 weeks!! Fck me!!
 
That's a very nasty tackle. Lucky to escape without concussion or a neck injury. 5 matches is very lenient.
Imagine the outcry if the Sharks had won the game. They should have had 14 players on the field for the majority of the game.

I have. But this is rugby not wrestling, so a suplex onto the head/neck is illegal. It's a lot different than getting flung to the ground.
 
2-3 weeks would have been fair imo , not as bad as a swinging arm to the neck/head area or spear tackle.
