Too many teams will make the competition repetitive and long. You need to take into consideration that Super Rugby in it's current shape is a travel between 4 continents. The time they expect some teams to travel is insane. No it's not. It is to many games and too repetitive, too long of a competition. The break for the june test kills all the momentum.
And supersport. A lot of people has given up on dstv.
And the bad quality of our top teams. Nobody likes watching their team lose if they play bad rugby.
We can't expect all of our teams to top the charts every season in and out, that is to be reasonable. No other country would like to see their teams lose and playing subpar rugby. Too many teams, of the same country, will produce more of those results.
The Currie Cup, the Mitre10 and whatever the Aussies are doing or not doing are suppose to serve as the player development platform. New Zealand are also currently lacking players in specialised positions. Plumtree recruited Andries Ferreira for the Hurricanes the other day as a exception for them lacking a player in that position.
