SuperSonic - Anyone affected by backdated massive bills?

😁 I was a regularish poster in my younger days. I am feeling like an alien now I got married and started adulting and started accrueing debit orders 😁 so there was no time for sitting on forums anymore, that was actually like 2011ish when I was last here. It feels different
It's got its good days and it's got its troll days. Lot of interesting people on here still. Yea, life happens, I suppose we all get there. Also taking a payment plan isn't wrong, they can't force you to pay 12k upfront the law is the law if they don't accept a payment plan then there are more interesting ways of dealing with it. Edit: Welcome back, for what it's worth

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it. This is the kind of response I was looking for to understand the situation. Thank you for that. Not whats going on with the other posts, again I have not been in forums for a very very long time.
We have done this and had to deal with it, billing is a complex thing and realistically one of the biggest challenges as an ISP.

I understand they didn't debit you but I do believe its a 2 way street with debit orders, hence why there should be something in the middle to work through it.

Good luck in finding resolve.

No, I pay for my services and if no payment is taken I follow up with the service. That said, seeing that both are in error, I believe the problem should be solved to both parties interests, maybe through a discount or a reasonable payment plan.

Good afternoon everyone

I received a backdated bill from Supersonic where they have not been debiting for a year which I did not realize.

They did not contact me like they have done in the past when I did fall in arrears. They normally contact if you fell a month in arrears and were quick to suspend in the past and make arrangements to double debit.

It turns out the reason for this is that there was a system change within Supersonic and someone or some team messed up and did not ensure customers were migrated and nothing was done about this. Does someone notice the loss of income? They admitted the fault on their side too.

Has anyone else been affected? I found this post on HelloPeter, this person is saying and thinking the EXACT same thing as me - https://www.hellopeter.com/superson...2000-due-to-supersonics-system-change-5560426

Mods its been years since I was last active on MBB I hope its ok to cross post from the other site.
Were you using Netflix?

The advice is pretty clear, you knew you had taken up a service with them you knew you had a responsibility in paying the bill. You can't claim ignorance over the fact that the bill never went off. Principle would have you not come on a public forum and ask us to which is normally common sense. So what do you want? A wrong was committed, If the bank failed to debit order me my Home Loan for over a year and a month later I got an email from them threatening foreclosure, do I tell them I wasn't aware of the debit order not going off claim ignorance. Do you think they'd care? Common man, we aren't going for you, we are simply relaying that your better moral, respect would be to pay it up. Take a payment plan and pay it off. if the service was used it was used. I think there is actually a latin word for it under our law that actually perfectly describes it (Edit: found it, ignorantia juris non excusat). But meh, sorry to hear it though it happens. Hence why I run the policy if you don't pay you don't get.
Wall of text. Too emotional.

@_user25 I wouldn't break my neck over it. In the end they would want something instead of handing it over to debt collectors and know that nothing will happen. If they are not too much more incompetent, you could try reason with them and ask for a payment plan and some discount. The key to solving a problem is communication.

Just pay them what you owe, and I find it hard to believe you didn’t realize the debits weren’t going off.

You said you have fallen in arrears with them before so that means money is tight, for someone like that it means you definitely would notice the extra money in your account every month. You were just hoping this would go on forever without them noticing.

Just pay!

Wow the assumptions that are made are very interesting. If you must know I fell into arrears because the account being debited from was overdrawn like 3 times in 5 years of being a client due to my then employer rarely paying late. Those months other debits were effected too. The issue was rectified immediately as I knew of it. I am horrified at the assumptions and judgement made on my intentions

Thanks for everyone who replied here all responses and valuable feedback noted.

I will be departing forum land again. My intention of this thread was to highlight poor service and lack of accountability in SA and the general decay in professionalism. If we dont call this out the country will continue to rot.

It seems like its not possible for someone to not notice a small amount of money being debited off an account that is busy? I find it very hard that I am alone with this as I know many people in my circle who also dont notice things till their accountant/tax person audits their financials? It is automatically assumed that I made the post to sherk responsibility for the debt like I am some kind of unethical person wow!

This thread has highlighted two things about SA to me:

- Fellow South Africans (a high percentage) are extremely opinionated and judgmental and condescending
- We are quick to jump down eachothers throats.

Supersonic's mistake is nothing compared to these issues which is actually more concerning than an admin mistake made by a company that is actually more forgivable.

P.S I also noticed the people who are like this have high post counts which suggests a degree of ego and the possible risk of spending too much time on forums which is not healthy and can lead to such problems including long term mental health issues.

Remember all the time spent on a forum racking up high post counts trolling people and having a leg over on people is time in ones life one does not get back, time that could have been spent doing something more beneficial to oneself. Keep that in mind as some positive non condescending advice from a fellow human.

Dont waste time that is a valuable asset addicted to the endorphin rush of posting. It takes a lot of commitment to be online all the time.

So with that in mind I will be quitting forumland again after this shocking experience. ( I remember back in the day when we used to rally to gether on issues like this around "telscum" ). I guess its devolved into a narcissists paradise (not everyone but directed at all those obnoxious folks with high post count count egos).

Cheers

Well put :whistling:

Yeah this is the land of trolls... especially if you get whiny but you just need a thick skin dude don't lose heart so easily. The trolls need to eat, maybe stop being so self absorbed and think about their needs too?

I'm glad you took accountability and realised that you were also responsible for making sure your bills are paid.

However, from your attitude and complete refusal to admit any wrongdoing, I get the feeling that you're one of those people who constantly complain about "the rot" in South Africa but still participate in it—whether it's using bribes to cut ahead in queues or having a few drinks and bribing a cop to get out of trouble.

So you just provided evidence that you are very good at watching your money...and yet claim to have magically missed a rather large debit order month after month...while receiving services.

Stop talking kak and just take responsibility or wilfully and knowingly ignoring it and hoping it would magically go away and you'd score a freebie.

Nobody believes you that you didn't know, because we all would have done the same in that situation. Difference is you got caught and the issue got rectified and you didn't prepare for it and now you want to be sad about it which just doesn't fly.

Hi, I've seen these posts and I am compelled to answer. I have been affected with the same massive backdated bill issue, and I certainly did not pick up the R1099 that goes off every month, the fact that you feel that everyone would know these things is surprising, I have R70k worth of debit orders every month and I don't check every one of them, certainly not a R1099 debit order that always goes off. It looks like two execs have been removed from the Supersonic team in the last 12 months in relation to this. Is it the customers fault for not noticing? Trust me when I say MTN doesn't see it that way.

No one is saying it is the customers fault for not noticing, but one cant just refuse to pay when they have been happily using the service.

One question.

Why doesn't Supersonic suspend the service when an account is in arrears?

Most other ISPs that I know do this.

My first fiber line and ISP was Telkom/Openserve. I signed up for the 24 month package for a 50Mb/50Mb line.

I got debited the first 2 months as usual and then nothing after that. They did not suspend line nor services. I had to call them and ask them to run debit orders again. I left it at that and forgot about it.

Nothing happened and I went right to month 23 then got an e-mail with charges and massive interest fees plus "reconnection" fees for every month. Called them and they scrapped the interest/fees and lowered the monthly fees if I paid a lump sum.

Yes same here. I need help addressing this as they are asking for very high payments for something which was their fault

I thought this was a continuation of the billing of people who already cancelled story.

Yes supersonic messed up. But dont expect us to believe you never checked your statements at least once in a year?

Just pay them.

Of course it's not the customer's fault, but responsibility does lie on both sides.

And regardless of how much you are spending on debit orders it's pretty poor bookkeeping/budgeting on a customer's part if a R1099 payment is missed month after month while still receiving the related services.

And yes if something as simple and cheap as my Netflix subscription didn't get billed for a month I would notice immediately.

Does that mean Supersonic is faultless? Absolutely not.

Agreed, that would have been great and immediately alerted of the non-payment of my debit order. Seems they didnt notice by the looks for things until the stopped meeting their forecasts.
