Last night at around 22:00 I received three SMSes from what appears to be a subscription service. I have no idea who they are or where they got my number from,

From: +27839306002000
Reply YES or NO to confirm your request for R180 Data Bonus from STS at R7.00 Daily. SMS is free.

And then again from +27839306002001 and +27839306002002

Using *141*5# to check on the "Content services" it showed 3 pending requests which I declined. Is there some way to report this or anything that can be done?

I also got that.

I called MTN, they simply claim that it is a 3rd party doing the billing, should I require more info I would need to call 3rd party.

LOL, they even had landline the number on hand, for the conpany doing the billing.

Also got 3 last night - on Telkom Mobile contract. Slightly different wording, but the same thing essentially (STS, Data Bonus etc.)

Someone trying their luck hoping people are gullible?

What is the vodacom number to check your subscriptions? I also got an SMS but chose to ignore it.

News article a while ago: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/97071-disappearing-airtime-unsubscribe-all-wasps.html

Cell C

Using the USSD string *133*1# subscribers can block all existing and future content billing.

MTN

MTN also offers a USSD string (*141*5#) to manage premium content subscriptions, but unlike Cell C’s it doesn’t block all future subscriptions. Instead, users select which services to unsubscribe from.

Telkom
Telkom Mobile said it does not offer an option for WASPs to charge for subscription services.

Vodacom

Vodacom users can unsubcribe from all WASP services by sending “STOP ALL” to 30333.

Just used the Vodacom one and it does work
