SWC stadiums 'too big'

I wonder if this donut here in Port Elizabeth will ever be fully utilized?

I love all the comments.

Opinions?

Let me start with PE. Of the cities that got new stadiums, PE desperately needed one. The EPRU Stadium is a piece of ****, and the sooner it goes the better. The EP rugby team have moved in as tenants, and if Acces and Lesuire (the operator) are clever they will get Bay United to move in too.

As for being 'fully utilised' I think that people should realise that South Africans are apathetic, look at Super 14 or Currie Cup averages (don't point out individual games). PE had 35 000 people for the Southern Kings vs Lions game and 44 000 for the Bafana vs Japan game. That excludes the WC games.

As for the other stadiums, CTS will be the WPRU's home soon, and Ajax have already moved in. Soccer City will (should) host both Soweto derbies, as well as 'high profile' games like Chiefs/Pirates vs Sundowns/Swallows. No one team can be a tenant at Soccer City (f off GLRU!), it's too big. The only way that it could have week to week tenants would be for Chiefs and Pirates to share, which is unlikely. Pirates are doing well at Orlando, and Kaizer still has his dream of Amakhosi Stadium.

Let's remeber that most rugby unions (all but WP) have long leases on 'their' stadiums for next to nothing. On the other hand, football clubs are paying around R 200 000 PER GAME to rent stadiums. As an example, the Central Cheetahs had 20 000 fans per game in the 2009 Super 14, Bloem Celtic had 22 000 fans were game in the 2009-10 PSL, but only play some games at Free State Stadium. Now if the FSRU had to pay such high rent, would they still use the stadium for every game?

The other factor to remember is that cups in SA don't seem to draw large crowds. Outside of finals, I think that cups may average fewer fans than PSL games, sad, but the same happens with CAF games.

SA can make the stadiums work, it's just about getting everyone to agree on how to make them work.

Would it pay the bills? (Google translate stumbled on too many words to be sure)

LOL!
He actually wants people to have free access to the services.

Anyway I would rather my Tax money be wasted on free access to Angus than the stadium sitting there empty.

You would honestly want the state to sponser that misogynistic liar?

I'd rather my taxes not go towards brainwashing people with religion.

funny, no mention of moses mabida, the best looking one of the lot! ;)

I don't think Moses is that big a problem as it's capacity is adjustable ( temporary stands are erected on the sides ). Theres already been talks about internantional rugby games being held there whereas the normal provincial rounds would be in ABSA, I think a semi or final might be held there too as we normally max out ABSA during those.

Free? So we get to pay even more for security, power, covering/repairing the pitch, wear and tear? No thanks, if they want to pray let them pay.

While some may not like to hear it, there's a good chance that next years Tri Nations test against Australia could be at Moses Mabhida and not at Kinsg Park. In the venue announcement, you will see that SARU say the test has been awarded to the KZNRU, subject to discussions with the union.

I think people need to experience a rugby match at the new stadium...

I'm all for the history of Kings Park, but we do need to accept that that stadium is old and has some pretty serious problems.

My pleasure :D

May I suggest that you download Google Chrome or Firefox as a browser with built in spell check - however neither would have noticed "tic" as it also means a twitch....you need humans for the final check..;)

 There is another "tic" .... I cannot say it better than wiki!!!

A tic is a sudden, repetitive, nonrhythmic, stereotyped motor movement or vocalization involving discrete muscle groups.Tics can be invisible to the observer, such as abdominal tensing or toe crunching. Common motor and phonic tics are, respectively, eye blinking and throat clearing.

Movements of other movement disorders (for example, chorea, dystonia, myoclonus) must be distinguished from tics. Other conditions, such as autism and stereotypic movement disorder, also include movements which may be confused with tics. Tics must also be distinguished from the compulsions of OCD and from seizure activity.
