Swiftkey is apparently one of the best Android keyboards, but it's a paid app.

Well they released a beta of their next version for free :)

Swiftkey X beta
Download here.

Seems very good from my brief test. I switched to it, will see how it goes. I was previously using "Keyboard from Android 2.3" which is a slightly modified stock Gingerbread keyboard.

Edit: It's time limited, expires on 14 August.

Using it for the last few weeks, it works fine.
It does get stuck in WhatsApp once in a while.

I used Swype for a while, it came with my Galaxy S. Found it wasn't really improving my typing, had to correct it too often.
Plain old keyboards with auto-correct and suggestions suit me better :)

Maybe I'll give it another shot sometime.

But I'm quite liking Swiftkey X, it's damn good, I can see why the original was a paid app :)

Nope, no limits. It's a fully featured app for free, just in beta stage.

Not sure what happens when it goes out of beta though. Either it gets updated to the full version or you get left with the beta while the full paid version is posted to the Market as a separate app.

Despite the beta tag it works great. No harm trying it.

Installed it. I pretty good. It is time limited though. The about dialog says it stops working in August.

I have the paid for version (was like R13 or something trivial) worth every cent!

Thanks so much for this madmatt!
This app has really improved my messaging ability. I cannot tell you how frustrating and inaccurate my default input method was.
Now I can type huge words like superfluous from a small Keypad with relative ease.
