Swimming Pool resurfacing

16k for marbelite. Using a recommendation from someone. Not a company but an individual.

Would like to go fibreglass butprice is insane .

that seems like a crazy good price, the price for marbelite resurfacing is very close the fibreglass quotes i am getting

I tiled mine almost 2 years ago. Old marblite was coming off in patches. This was not a cheap job, but the result is fantastic.

If your pool has a concrete shell, your options, in order of initial price are:
1. Paint
2. Fibreglass
3. Marblite
4. Tile

In my opinion, that is also the order of longevity ie, paint lasts shortest and tiles have the longest lifespan. Whatever option you choose, make sure that the materials and workmanship are good quality. Poor quality will result in rework required and unnecessary additional costs for the rework.

I'm very interested in this option. Dis you use a special tile? Special grout? Tile cement? Did you seal it? And if you did, with what?

The tiles are 25x12.5mm, 6mm thick. I battled to get a thickish tile with fairly small dimensions, but I found at Tile Africa in Silverton, Pretoria. They look exactly like the tiles on the walls of the Gautrain stations. I could choose any colour, as long as I stuck to white and dark blue . If your pool has many curved areas, then a small tile becomes more important, to minimise on cutting.

For sealing the marbelite surface, after patching the areas that were loose, I used TAL keycoat, mixed with tile cement to make a very thin paste.

Tile cement for the keycoat and for bedding the tiles was TAL Goldstar 12 hour rapid set tile adhesive.

Grout: I was advised that I could use any grout, but I chose to use TAL acid-resist grout. It is better suited to the harsh environment in a pool. Price difference was very small.

All mixing for bedding the tiles and for grouting was done with TAL bonding liquid. I did not use ANY water for this.

The 3rd season after the job was done has now started and the pool looks GREAT!

i dunno i am on the fence about the tile idea.

it seems like people don't want business, still waiting on quotes.... the costing is effing ridiculous

This x 10000million...

My fibre glass pool has a leak around the light as far as I can tell, and the gel coat is cracked in a few places. I have called 4 different companies to try and get them to come out and quote me to replace the light and repair the areas of the gel coat that are damaged... ZERO response from the companies after the initial call.

I sanded the pool and grinded some areas down with an angle grinder and decided to go for the epoxy option as it was considerably cheaper than fibreglass.

There is a base coat and 3 top layers, all of which are painted on with rollers.

The whole process was a lot more labour intensive than what I anticipated but the end result is brilliant - had the kids + family + friends in the pool the entire holliday.

Additionally the pool is a lot easier to clean , uses less chemicals and looks great :)

Any of you have any feedback with regards your relining/painting?

i am considering expoxy vs fibreglass currently, price difference is quite large.
I've tried every product and trick the last few years. No luck! I'm battling to find someone to repaint it though.

Long story short.

My fiberglass pool was leaking.
Had few possible cracks, holes, nicks etc etc.

The pool looked old and faded.

Did epoxy repainting over 2 weekends. Cleaned the pool, made sure all cracks etc was filled and sanded with fibreglass.

went with a dark blue, as wife wanted (so she got), 3 coats of epoxy with blue tint.
Then the next weekend did 2 clear layers of epoxy.

I did it all myself and cost about R3k at the end just for that.

Looks great! what product did you use?

Also, did the pool lift at all? I've been told that an empty fibreglass pool can lift out of the hole

Inherited a plastic lined pool fitted 29 years back. It has a leak and is down to half a metre. Pump and pipes are ok. It appears to have panels of rocksheet around the edges and a sand base

Quotes to replace the plastic liner start at R50k and go up to R80k. Have had 9 contractors look at it and only 3 reponded

The paving around will also need to be replaced

Would you say a plastic lined pool is a write off, or has anybody successfully restored one?

i think there is a big difference between a shell and a fibreglass coated pool

product - Polyester Resin NPG Clear pool coat
It is about R2300 for a 25kg

I made 2 holes at the bottom (drilled) to let last bit of water out and to avoid possible popping of the pool.
They pop when the water table is high and water pushes pool up.

There was no rain for ages before i started and even after.

i then filled about 5k litre of water and when it rained , that filled the rest of the pool.
