Here we go again:

We already finished it on PC but wanna physical for the collection. (Think it's the only PlayStation Studio game on Nintendo.)
I got my solution yesterday

*Used the youth day discount.

So now I can play all my games for kids, like Pokemon.

I even tried the UK, no luck.

Even with the tech being out since 2019, I think Nintendo is the 1st OEM that solely supports Express.
Other OEMs that supported Express also supported Extreme, and since Extreme is cheaper, there wasn't a push for bigger Express cards.

Lexar only recently (02/04/25) started making 1TB's so others will probably look at it now that there is official demand.

Just stupid from Nintondo to do this.

Would have been great if they allowed both.

"The tech is not readily available? Lets give our users the option for both. Nah, loading times will be affected."

Its both a pro and a con.

Someone has to take the 1st step and If there is no hard push for it, people won't gravitate to Express.
Personally, I wish others like Raspberry would adopt the tech cause it would seriously help in that env.

If no one pushes it, it won't get cheaper cause of the niche

I mean I for one thought this was brand new tech, only to find out its been out since 2019 already, just no one pushed it.

- Those LCD issues... even I could see the blurring vs SwOLED. My eyes bleeded! My 1st reaction was maybe they're using crappy recording equipment... but the reflection of what looks like a pretty professional camera in the S2 screen put that to rest. Seems like a firmware update might improve things.
- My brain switched off with the docked mode stuff. I need to get up to date with nits and HDR and VRR and stuff.
- Did they mention anything of temperatures and fan noise? Maybe not an issue...?
- Surprised at the love for Gamechat!

I recently picked up a modded V1 Switch for 3.5k , but the Switch 2 is tempting me.
I've technically got the cash for a Switch 2 but I wouldn't be able to have access to the same library of games, I'd just have MKW and I'd be able to borrow a copy of TOTK, and maybe pick up some smaller games.
Should I be selling my Switch V1 so I can experience the performance gains of the Switch 2?
Should I hold off on playing stuff like Tears of The Kingdom till I eventually get one? I've been enjoying TOTK so far, even with the frame drops and bad resolution(My switch can only display at 720P on my TV, 1080p makes it glitch out. Works fine on other screens though)

My biggest pet peeve is loading times: From instantaneous (NES) to what we have today. Have to say the Gamecube had some crazy fast loading times for a disc based system.

The tinfoil hat on my head says this was to get'em to upgrade to the eventual OLED version. Apparently Samsung failed to get Nintendo to go OLED with the S2 (which would've made the crazy price even crazier). I thought (checks notes) the VRR on the LCD screen would've made it superior to the OG/SwOLED...?

But this is unacceptable. Nintendo better apologise and lower the price.

Finally got my hands on this thing, but only for a few minutes... My goddess! A thing of beauty.

And that JoyCon connect sound with the magnets: music to my ears. The right joycon's control stick kinda feels weird to me, in that it seems to be too low. Nothing a few hours of exposure would fix, I'm sure...

The unit feels a bit too big for me, but after a MKW session and some Animal Crossing (those loading times are boss), I can see myself becoming a more active portable gamer (yes, there is nothing wrong with the LCD panel). But that would be with some 3rd party Joycon Grip for comfort.

The LCD screen... OK I see no problem with it. At all. Rewatched the DF video covering that section, and yeah, seeing it at 11% and 33% speed through their recording camera, you can see the ghosting, etc. But experiencing the screen under normal conditions, this LCD is great (compared to the OG. Dunno about SwOLED). I tried the 'moving left-and-right on the game tiles' in the main screen, and saw no noticable blurring... Unfortunately could not do anything on the "View all games" screen as there's not enough games on the unit to test for scrolling artifacts and the like.

Also no 2D game for me to test. That would've been interesting...

The thing runs pretty silent (cool to the touch too). I held it close to my ear, but could not hear a thing. But that was only for ~10 minutes of gameplay.

I do think that the LCD stuff is a bit overblown... but then I'm an easy to please gamer. My eyes saw nothing out of the ordinary under normal conditions. Thankfully I don't game from behind a camera lens.

I am pretty impressed with what I experienced. Unfortunately due to circumstances I will not be able to gauge docked mode until I maybe get my own device.

I see no problem with the Screen, but I guess that's cause we're coming from OG LCD screen Switch.

What I do have a problem with is the fact that I need to plug the Switch 2 directly into the TV.
Switch 1/PS2/PS3 used to be on TV HDMI 2 (via a Auto 3 port HDMI switcher)
Mini-PC directly into TV HDMI 1

Switch 2 no like the switcher, so have to swap with PC. The Problem is that the Mini-PC is always ON, so the auto HDMI select is now a manual select. :(

Edit: At least I dont have it as bad as this guy:

I bought the thing for handheld gaming.

As long as I get JRPGs with a backpack and a world to explore I am happy.

That being said, the battery does not allow me to enjoy it that much. Kinda defeats the handheld thing.
Other than that, I am a happy gamer.

Larger screen is lekker.

And when I finally get Pokemon South Efrica, it will still be the same for me as each year/ 2 years.

That reminds me, we had a 10K mah Powerbank in the OG switch travel case. Must see if it will work on Switch 2 or if I need to invest in a new one.

Another scathing review (with objective data) of the LCD Panel found in the Switch.

The only problem I have with the review is how they got the BlurBuster UFO test to run on the S2, as that is done via your browser. Maybe there's some S2 hack to run Blurbuster? And comparing the S2 panel to desktop monitors is a bit wonky. It would also have been interesting to dissect the "Welcome Tour" section that deals with the S2 screen...

A class action lawsuit for what looks like false advertising could be made, but US Nintendo gamers can't do that as they were forced to agree to that a month or so ago (nevermind that the FTC is gutted after the Doge cuts and crony hires). But even if they could, they would most likely have lost on technicalities.

Importantly, how will Nintendo respond to all of this...?

OK... Managed to get a 2D game on the S2. Transferred my US profile over (hope this does not mess up anything with the profile if I have the funds to maybe purchase the S2 in the future). I do not have the game DF used (Hollow Knight?), but I used Rogue Legacy.

Having knowledge of the "flaws" of the panel really messed up my experience: what did I see?! Is that it!? Let me try this, etc. Everything looks normal to me. Falling down from heights causes the screen to scroll vertically showed no issues (to me). Movement left and right with jumps diagonally looked fine. Maybe I'm using the wrong game, but nothing was an unplayable, blurry, Vaseline smeared (holy) ghostly mess.

I left all the default settings (HDR on, HDR for all software, or whatever those settings are): I am not comfortable messing with settings of other people's devices. I dunno if messing with the settings might make things worse or better?

The only scenario where I could see what I think was ghosting is in the System Settings. The section on the left with all the setting categories: if you scroll up and down with the Up/Down button held in, one can clearly see an after-image of the coloured border bar that highlights a specific section. This effect is also present on the OG (docked or handheld)

But I'm a filthy Fortnite-OG Switch-waiting-for-my-skin-to-load-playing-heathen. Yeah, there's not even dozens of us...

The only time I could see the eye-bleeding defects of the panel is when the games run at 11 and 33% speeds of the DF video. If you're one of those cursed to have such good vision to see this at normal speeds, it's understandable to be highly upset after paying that premium. I would've returned mine if I was in that boat. Maybe Nintendo will have an update with the vaunted "overdrive" toggle for the portable gamers...? The only way that will happen I think is if people get more vocal.

Another day. Another (blog) post done and dusted.

I think the blur of the panel is most noticeable if you’re docking it with a super fast OLED and then switching to handheld.

My Switch 2, TV and even PC monitor are all LED so I guess I’m just used to it.
