Switch 2 thread

It will be more interesting to see how it does over the long term. A big launch was sort of a given...

Switch 1 has a base of what, 152m? That's a large number of potential customers that can buy Switch 2, will they all convert or is it going to be a PS4 -> 5 situation.

Also considering that the handheld space is going to get more competitive over the next few years. Though I don't think anything will be a serious contender for the Switch 2: definitely not the PC handhelds like an Ally with an Xbox sticker, maybe a new PS handheld...but again, I think that will struggle against what's available out there, interesting times ahead.

proof that the online discourse does not reflect the general populous views... I am absolutely LOVING my switch 2! very happy with my purchase.

Ditto.

I didn't get to play much, but from what I tested, we don't even need new games to even validate the console. The way they targeted back compatibility this time around it actually injects new life into old games.

If you don't think that is enough for Nintendo fans, go and actually look at the games. 90% of 1st party are in fact re-releases of old games with new paint.

In fact its so bad I am planning on buying all the Switch one's games I skipped cause of bad performance. eg: Bayonetta, Pokémon and such.

I just don't get this fascination with Nintendo.
They make great games. Some of the greatest. That should be enough.
Never mind the switch 2...
I just could not... swallow the price. Otherwise I would have been there day 1.
3.5m people ready to drop a bunch of money for another Mario game.
That's just narrow-minded. Nintendo is way more than Mario. The brand is pretty diversified. Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Metroid (pretty niche all things considered), Fire Emblem, Pokemon, etc.

But don't fool yourself. Nintendo has been 'punished' since the NES days by their 'blind, loyal and mindless Mario followers':
- Virtual Boy,
- Gamecube,
- Wii U,
- 3DS (in the beginning at least) are all testament that Nintendo fans can and will make the company change their ways.

I just don't get this fascination with Nintendo.
Yeah, lately the company is on a different wavelength, and I'm having trouble tuning in. At times cognitive dissonance wants to set in, but it's quite easy to fend off. Maybe I'm getting too old for this. Fathering @zulucat is already so time-consuming and draining.

I think they just had their Ducks in a row for once.

Timing was just right, nothing else special is happening on any of the other consoles and they fixed a bunch of issues with the old switch.

yay Ninty !

^ How to tell me you dont like JRPG's without telling me you dont like JRPG's

Xennoblade, Fire Emblem, Octopath Traveler, Final Fantasy and loads more <-- All started on Nintendo and some still only found on Nintendo.

Also, funny how not one critic mentions their lack of launch games.

If it was Sony and MS, they will all their case.

None.

Not a single Nintendo game has ever made me want to play it, never mind buy a console for it.

Edit: Only the Gamecube, only for Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, wanted to but didn't.
which explains why you don't understand how 3.5m people bought the switch 2 in 4 days.

I currently own a PC, Xbox X, PS4 (gathering dust) and OG Switch (only slightly less dusty*) - if I had a TV that I could hook it up to I'd probably use the Switch more (I still haven't finished Zelda: BOTW). If I played it more I'd probably upgrade to a Switch 2.

My first console was a Intellivision [Lock 'n Chase, ftw]; my best friend got a Sinclair ZX Spectrum and then an Atari 2600; then various Donkey Kong handhelds but none of the Nintendo machines. Late teens was PC gaming and when my kids came along it was PS2, PSP, PS3, PS4, PS Vita and eventually XBox X/S. I bought the OG Switch on a whim really (a friend of mine was raving about Zelda).

The only 1st party games I've played since I got my Switch are Super Mario Wonder, Metroid Dread & BOTW. I kinda get where you are coming from, personally I think a lot of them are a bit overrated. But on the other hand, their games are very high quality and go big on the 'fun factor'. People just love the whimsical fun games they release, and that's why they sell like mad.

I do play JRPGs, 1st ones I remember playing was on the PS1, FF7 and Legend of Dragoon.
The Switch exclusive JRPGs don't convince me to buy the system.
None of the Nintendo only titles are enough to make me buy it and I don't get why it does for others.

I have had a PC my entire life since but also had consoles, PS1, PS3, Xbox 360 and PS4 and Quest 2(Technically also a console)
Bought them because they had titles (many) I wanted to play. God of War, Halo, Killzone, Metal Gear titles for example.
Titles that were only available on their system. Bought a PS3 after seeing MGS4 trailer.
Now everything I see and desire to play is release on console and PC. So, I just play it on PC.

Can't say the same for Nintendo titles. I watch the trailers for them and none of them make me want to play them.
It's great that people enjoy it. Not hating on people for enjoying it.
Just saying, I just don't get it.

I get that, personally not into Mario, Kirby and that <-- More my Wife's cup of tea
Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3+X, The World Ends with You, Fire Emblem for me was well worth the OG Switch price.
Bonus round was the obvious Zelda games, Hyrule Warriors & Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 as well.

Like I said before, Switch 2 just pumps new life into them as well as making some like Astral Chain playable.

But that's just me.

Only complaint I have is that the Joycon grip in the box should've been the "full" charging grip version with USB-C and back buttons.

Now if I want to buy a second pair of Joycons for R2299, I need to buy the charging grip for R799 to charge them as a standalone if I don't want to keep juggling this pair and the original pair on and off the Switch 2.

This makes the cost for a charging-capable Joycon 2 controller over R3199, a bit maddening.
