Switch off to avoid hefty electricity penalties

Did the goverment no promise free Electricity in 1994, and what did they do with the money that they collected in the past months and they have cancelled the Nuclear project.............

What about prepaid electricity users? A bit difficult to fine them as you can buy electricity for the whole year at one time...if you really wanted to?
Surely they can remotely adjust the metering?

what I find ****ed up about this is we have a prepaid meter in our house. We put on R200-R400 a month depending on what we use. We already cut down on power by not using the stove (MAYBE once a week) and the geyser is one of those energy saving ones.

Now how are they going to penalize me? So when I go buy an extra few hundred units its going to cost R18 instead of the normal price?

The people are now suffering for the governmint's poor judgment several years ago!

what next!!

christ what next??

I have already attempted to reduced my electricity consumption by installing a surface mounted timer for my geyers....R425-00....used to save me +-R20 a month (my geyser only on for 1hr @ 70deg a day now)

bought a decent gas stove..........R4500-00.......saves me +-R60 a month

installed insulation in the roof.....R2500-00

installed fluorescent lights

installed double glazed tinted windows.........R10000-00
(this helps with maintaining a comfortable temp in the house +- 5deg difference between outside & inside - no longer need heaters or air-con)

every time I installed one of the above mentioned, I noticed a minor decrease in consumption? only to find the next months bill even higher!! WTF!!

my next move is a wind turbine to charge the 102amp battery to power the tv, pvr etc for use at night.

after that...........candles.......then darkness!!!!!!!

I think if every PAYING electricity user STOPPED paying eskum for a few months!! then they will soon realise who is actually in "POWER". Personally I think big business should pay for home users electricity......just look around and see how much they waste........probably more than home users use!!

Can people post how many units per day or month they use on electricity?

I Have a swimming with a 1.1Kw pump that only runs 1:30hours per day (that is enough to turn the water once and my pool still stays clear HtH stays the same)

We use 12 units a day and 372 units per month which = R 210 a month on electricity

Eksdom needs to tell how much they spend on the big shots salary, How much the work force of Eksdom earn. How much electricity we supply our neighbours. And who can we fire from EKSDOM....

1 x fridge........24/7
1 x freezer.......24/7
1 x geyser........1hr/day

at night:
1 x pc & Fl light +-2hrs
1 x tv +-4hrs
1 x pvr +- 4hrs
1 x lounge FL light +-4hrs

my consumption as of NOV 2008 is 467.

hope it gives you an idea of what your consumption is?

You don't needa geyser use a parafin based hotwater system they use for camping.
It means all expansion in food production have now been halted, replacing your geyser with a small 2liter parafin heating unit they advertised in Landbou weekblad for farmworkers will now be required by everybody if you wish to even eat: No electricity no food.

Correct me if I am wrong but what this means is the ANC has now instantly made 50% of farms worthless while the others will become unaffordable? If you land has been lying fallow and you planted 100hektr bananas Dec 2008 you have just lost R6mil rand the drain?

For lighting run an IR beam on every door that automatically switches the lights on/off. Install solar panels and charge a battery pack during day and use LEDs to light a room at night. PC throw away or only use for games, Laptop will be only used from now on for work. It will be an ethical emergency thing to do like everybody donated aluminium during the Second world war.

For food cooking use LP gas, but I don't think there is enough capacity.

So you can cut your eskom bill by more than 50% either that or be willing to go without food.

Use LP gas to heat 4liters of water mix with cold water put in a 20liter bucket and use a http://www.packrat.co.za/ battery operated camping shower to suck the water out and spray it on you in the shower - you don't need a geyser.

I think its sarcasm.

It took the ANC 14 years to take us back to the middle ages. viva

Actually, to be more precise, what took scientists and mathematicians 2000 years to achieve took the ANC only 14 years to undo completely :D :(

What a pleasure to find the Captain among us again... Happy New Year! Ethical? Someone has to pay for the Tetra system and all the extra lighting it requires to push the signal.... as the Capt. says, Do the Right thing here! *keels over laughing....:D

I run

2 x Gaming Pc with both 650w PSU +-6hrs
1 x LCD TV +-4hrs
1 x HDPVR +-24/7
1 x 7.1 surround system +-4hrs
22 x LED Down lights +-8hrs (0.5w each 11w total)
1 x 4 plate stove +-1hrs
1 x 3kw geyser 40min per day
1 x 1.1 kw pool pump 1h40m per day
1 x fridge 24/7 (setting # 2)

+-12 units a day and +-372 units per month
and we are a family of 2

2 x Gaming Pc with both 650w PSU +-6hrs - Replace with laptop
1 x LCD TV +-4hrs - Use a laptop
1 x HDPVR +-24/7 - ? what is this
1 x 7.1 surround system +-4hrs - Get headphones with 433mhz wireless cord.
22 x LED Down lights +-8hrs (0.5w each 11w total) - Use with battery and solar panel.
Sabie sands there is no eskom power people use leds from batteries that they recharge during the day.
1 x 4 plate stove +-1hrs - Get a gas stove
1 x 3kw geyser 40min per day - Use www.packrat.co.za and gas/parafin.
1 x 1.1 kw pool pump 1h40m per day - Stop swimming we have an emergency.
1 x fridge 24/7 (setting # 2) - Get a gas based unit(expensive though).

Thus you can cut your power by 80%. Look at it this way. We are in Africa and thus we are all going to go camping for the next 7 years but instead of going to the bush we stay at home.

"Stop swimming we have an emergency."

If you live in the great karoo with temp +-45'c you would need a pool

It is not our fault Eskom cant think further then the noses and plan properly for the future instead lets have fat Xmas bonuses, Eskom and the ANC ****ed up and now the people of South Africa are paying the toll, at this moment we have people that are not qualified in the offices that cant even count to 10 but it is South African that are using to much electricity

wify : what you're proposing is taking a massive step backwards in our lifestyle....

Why not use that tinfoil covered head of yours to come up with solutions that DON'T inconvenience people instead?

One thing i find strange is that i live in an area that has rich Uranium deposits, but yet nobody are mining it and eskom just canceled nuclear power plants in SA. I just wonder is it because that they wont be able to keep putting up prices if there is sufficient power?

here here.........that's the problem these days? people r thinking like its OUR fault we have a power problem.

I ask u what was eskum doing with our hard earned money all these years?? the thing that helps define CIVILISATION is the fact that we move forward, learn and improve our lives! not stumble back into the dark ages just because our leaders r ignorant.

R18K

1 x 7.1 surround system +-4hrs - Get headphones with 433mhz wireless cord.

R300

22 x LED Down lights +-8hrs (0.5w each 11w total) - Use with battery and solar panel.

R5K +

1 x 4 plate stove +-1hrs - Get a gas stove

R4K

1 x 1.1 kw pool pump 1h40m per day - Stop swimming we have an emergency.

If you empty the pool for a prolonged time you are looking at a repair bill of around R5K.

1 x fridge 24/7 (setting # 2) - Get a gas based unit(expensive though).

? R6K

Could you quickly deposit the R35K into my account and I will go ahead with your suggestion. I am sure everyone else will be willing if you sort themselves out as well if you give them the money too.

so where is the second national electricity provider? I thought Government would have pushed through at least one more provider given the current crisis???

Oh... I forgot... the ANC government doesn't really care about the people... only about lining their own pockets.
