Switch Owners - Is it worth it?

This thread has got me interested in getting one.

Going to pull the trigger on a second hand switch bundle that will include 3 games, Skyrim, Mario Odyssey and Zelda Breath of the wind. It will also include a Nintendo cover and 2 screen protectors aan original Zelda Protective hardshell case/pouch with slots for games and cables. All this for R5 500.

Is there anything I need to look at when buying second hand? I have read about console bans and will check this first.

Check the JoyCons thoroughly. They are the weakest part of the system. Make sure they don't drift and the analogue sticks click properly.

Also check the console isn't locked out of Nintendo servers. If the console was jailbroken then Nintendo might have blocked it.

What do you mean by drifting? Will check that they click on properly.

Console ban is the first thing I will check.

The Switch is great, I am really enjoying it.

Had mine for a week now and playing Breath Of The Wild on a 65" 4K TV. It's a beautiful game.

I also bought the Pro controller, although being way overpriced, it's a great controller and I would definitely recommend it.

Fixed for you ;)

Sounds like a pretty good deal. you can always sell those games once you are done with them to get money for more awesome games.

Console bans are a bit hard to detect - speaking from experience having run android and overclocking my own switch for some gains, Nintendo generally doesn't ban immediately. You might find one day in the future that it stops working because of something the previous owner might have done in 2018...This is a bit of hit or miss with second hand items. I know I'm not banned but I personally don't have a problem with that because I plan on picking up a lite sometime soon for portability. If this concerns you then purchasing brand new is the only way to go.

Joycons have their fair share of issues too - https://sagamer.co.za/forum/showthread.php?198500-Joycon-Drift-issue
But its not an expensive fix if you do it yourself, or get console doctor in Bothasig to fix for you

Best part is when you find Korok seed, drop the boulder on the little fellow

Went to Tokyo a week back and bought the updated 'redbox' switch there with tax discount.

I am actually really impressed by it. Have already bought some discounted games from the Nintendo e-shop and having a great time playing it - pick up and go etc.

The mobility aspect of it is really awesome, plus being able to detach the joy cons, hooking it up to a tv etc.

You can apparently log in to different region e-stores and buy games that are on special. Think there is also a website that tracks specials on games over the different regions.

Not a huge gamer, but do enjoy spending time enjoying the right game. As much as I enjoy the Xbox/PS, I find I just don't enjoy most AAA titles. I'm just not all that interested in shooting things. Had a Wii back in the day and honestly had more fun playing the likes of Super Mario Galaxy. I find indie titles more interesting as well.
With GTA 6 still a way off, no need to run out and get an Xbox just yet. I really wouldn't mind the Switch though, looks like a blast. Just to decide which organ to sell...

Jip bought my YuGiOh from Japan waay before it got released locally.

Picked up my switch today. Owner bought it at Target in the US August last year. Got the receipt from her. She paid $616.00 and it comes with a 64gig memory card, case, two extra screen protectors and three games. Only issue is that the charger is a US plug.

Nice set of games to get started with as well :). You'll find that SD card filling up quickly, I had to upgrade to a 200gb. Downloading via e-shop is the way to go.

Yip biggest issue for me is space, i have a 128gb sd card and its full. My switch is softmodded so i can use external storage BUT i prefer to use it on portable mode and the ext storage will only work if docked IIRC.

Mine also suffers from the drift issue but i took an earbud and just cleaned the excess dirt from under the little joystick, that seemed to have solved the issue for now, i also did the recalibrate method just in case.

yeah like other have said when buying second hand just make sure the console wasn't modded else you will risk a ban when going online. mine stays offline permanently and i can live with that :D

i'm playing lets go evee now and absolutely loving it! I've played the Pikachu version so thought i'll give this a go but this time around i decided to activate the cheats :D and wow what a difference that makes, loving every second of it again. i'll definitely get sword and shield when its out and the new Zelda as well.

Does anyone know where I can buy a charger for the dock? I've looked at the obvious places I know such as Takealot ans Raru, but nothing doing. It needs to be an official one apparently. Or has anyone used something else with success?

Reason being actually, my youngest was saving for a Switch that was in Cash Crusaders for 4k. So he raised the cash and off we went. Only, when we got there they had another one for 4200 but it wasn't boxed and never had a charger or HDMI cable, but, it did come with Zelda BOTW, Mario Kart and Splatoon 2. So an absolute bargain and I thought we'll get a charger easy, but no luck so far.

FYI, that's 4 switches in our family now, one for me and each of my 3 kids :p

Probably a stolen console, they always seem to forget the cables and power brick...

Anyway, the non USBC PD spec charger I think is 40W, maybe try a 45+W USBC PD charger?

My haul from yesterday - for my upcoming flights.

Plus spent a few hours playing Untitled Goose Game

I actually thought about it maybe being stolen after we got home. But the fact the games were included made me think maybe not.
