I've been a "lifelong" Apple user and I switched to Android :p

Very happy with the change. I changed because I wanted something different and also tired of paying huge amounts for a device that's not up to par with some of the flagship Android phones out there.

Also that notch...they've had a lot of time to get rid of it.

I switched after a lifelong time due to the state of modern OEM Android devices. It's not the case anymore that you can pick up virtually any device and have or make it relatively clean as a software stack, especially in South Africa with our limited selection of official imports. I also grew tired of the processes of cleaning said devices to run what I want, and noticed many times how devs optimise or have a superior version of their apps on iOS. A large factor for me personally is also Apple's lean to smaller devices with great specs which is awesome for my hands, and I could never go back alone on the optimised nature and smoothness of the OS.

That said, there is a lot to detest about Apple and the ecosystem, but my device will tide me over until viable Linux mobiles take shape in the far future, that's the plan anyway.

I’ve recently switch from Android to iOS,
The last iPhone I used was the original iPhone.

I must say I’m quite happy with the iPhone 12.
The size perfect. Camera is good. Battery life is good.

And the transition from Android to iOS wasn’t difficult at all.

I came from a Note 20 Ultra,

The battery life was disappointing,
Initially I thought I’d have the same problem with the iPhone,
But even paired with the Apple Watch, battery life seems pretty good.

When my Samsung watch was paired to to the Note, by 2 pm I’d need to charge the phone again.

I haven’t really tried car play as yet,
Will try as soon as I can.

Any tips, tricks or advice will be appreciated

CarPlay was my reason.

If I could get Android Auto I'd move
Luckily my car has both. Kinda like Android Auto more. It has more screen area for the app (WAZE) than on CarPlay, which has a massive "taskbar"

At the time I was really impressed by the camera of my colleagues iPhone 6S, decided to switch over with my next upgrade and I was soon hooked by the buttery smoothness of iOS. Also I got really tired of Google force feeding me updates for apps I never use (Google+, hangouts, PlayStore etc.) just so that they could spy on me some more. Not saying iOS doesn't do this, but Android at the time was just more annoying about it.

I’ve noticed that about the app updates as well, it seems a lot less on iOS,

What I really do miss from Android is the gestures,

Yeah, I would have no issues with an OEM device that was solely spying on me alone, but in most circumstances on many kinds of Androids, the floodgates open for harvesting and is usually not removable by normal means, depending on the severity, Apple nailed this aspect at the very least but comes at a cost as usual.

Very true, and Apple's larger phones don't even try to cater for the increased real estate and instead simply blew up the interface, would be nice if they eventually worked on gestures more and fixed this to a degree

On a side of Apple being "better" I would say don't be fooled.

I've been using the iPhone 6S and there are so many gripes I have with it, and the brand:
1. Lightning cable malfunctions after a while and you need to buy a new cable ( something I've never experienced with anything using micro-usb)
2. Some wifi connections just don't work.
3. Signal loss for no reason. Turn on/off flight mode and signal comes back.
4. Something not lakka with the battery. Drains quickly, and, some days it can run on 1% for 30minutes and other times it will shutdown at around 7% and won't turn on until charged.
5. Phone gets insanely hot when being used whilst charging.

Conspiracy would be there is purposeful software causing this since the phone is 5 generations behind or it's just a kak phone.

My biggest annoyance is that you can only go back by swiping on the left side of the phone,

You could do that on either side on Android,

Unless I’m missing something

That's odd. I have the Note 20 5G and my battery lasts 2 days easily.

I used to be a big fan of iPhone, but switched over the Android when the Note 3 was released. I will most likely never got back to iPhone.

I’ve had a similar issue with the signal loss, but mainly happens after I’m no longer in range of WiFi

Went from Nexus 5X to iPhone 8. Since the cheap nexus line got canceled and Pixels cost the same as an iPhone, I thought it was an opportunity to see what iPhones are like.

I like it, when I upgrade it’ll probably be another iPhone. I know there’s third parties that make pure Android phones in the nexus price range, but none of them look super exciting to me.

One more thing, does iOS have “Smart Dial” like Android

When you in the diaper app, instead of enter the number you type a name eg. If you called home, you’d just press 4663

The 6s is quite an old phone now so you can't really use it as a reference. I have an 11 Pro now and it is worlds apart.
Since this upgrade my 6S has been relegated to backup phone. I can't say that I've experienced any of those issue you listed. It's still works as smooth as the day I bought it except for one fatal flaw, the battery / even after being replaced by an official reseller, it struggles to even last a day on standby.
