Is there a maximum time allowed for repairs on a machine that is still under warranty?

I handed in my PC last week Wednesday (21st May). I phoned them on Monday and they informed me that they have not taken my PC to the supplier yet for testing ??

Trying very hard not to throw my toys around, I told them to take it to the supplier as its the only PC I have and need to work on it.

I phoned them again today but only got the "Your machine is still at the supplier" reply.

SO my question again. If all the components are still under warranty, is there a maximum time allowed for the repairs before they need to replace whats broken? I'm sick and tire of waiting and am now having another weekend without my online gaming...I might not make it.

Found This

If you find that your product is defective AFTER six (6) months of receiving the product and within the manufacturer warranty, Sybaritic has no legal obligation to assist you - it will be your responsiblity to contact the manufacturer directly in accordance with their specific warranty procedures.

Well...guess I'm up for a long wait to get my PC back. These online shops are about as trustworthy as my morning bowel movements.

I found out the hard way that these guys are USELESS when it comes to after sales support. Good luck

It started up fine and loads the OS without any issues. As soon as I start playing a game or watch an HD movie, the power will trip (just for the pc) and then restart automatically after about 5 seconds.

If I remember correctly, the logs showed that it was Error 46(the system power one). So I'm guessing it is the PSU. But I'm not the expert I used to be.

Could be PSU, GPU, lastly CPU - if heatsink not mounted correctly with thermal paste etc.

Hmmmm...I did open the case and touched the parts. none felt hard but thinking back, if the heatsink wasnt working properly it wouldnt be hot, now would it...sigh. In hindsight I should have checked. But it would have gone through the whole process any way.

If you know what component is giving issues you are within your right to ask for a refund or wait for them to repair it if its still under warranty. If they give you issues get your lawyer to send them a letter and they will never give you hassles again.

They should have clear terms and conditions regarding repair times etc. what does the jobcard say ?

The CPA clearly states this and yes its enforcible.

OP has admitted that it is beyond 6 months, meaning it is beyond the CPA. So he has to wait on supplier.

Sadly suppliers will possibly take 10 days to 3 weeks, after they received it, before OP hears anything.

I have stopped using Sybaritic after I had an ADSL router dead out of the box take 3 weeks to sort out.

Your GPU is probably drawing too much power for the PSU to handle, PSU probably faulty.

Well...tomorrow it will be 2 weeks without my PC. I already forgot what online gaming is all about and have been spending night crying myself to sleep . HAHA.

Anyway people. Stay away from Sybaritic. They hook you in with excellent pre-sales service but once they have your money, they don't care. They ignore my emails that I send them and can not give me any idea of whats wrong with my PC and why it's taking so long when I phone in. So annoyed!

And if anyone from Sybaritic is reading this, please get a new receptionist. I don't want to feel like I'm talking to someone suicidal every time I phone in.

I have also bought from them many times, but I have been lucky enough that nothing broke yet. Thanks for the warning!

People always thought that they had no consumer rights before the CPA, and now think the CPA is the only consumer laws that exist.

You are never beyond the CPA, as long as there is warranty said supplier has to honor it. However after 6 months they just get more options I.E refund/repair/replace.

We have many other laws relating to consumer rights.

On related note, I have used sybaritic in the past and they have always been good to me. A rma was sorted in a week but I agree they should not take this long to send it to the supplier... :wtf:

They phoned me back now and said that the supplier sent my GPU to Acer. Guessing that ups my waiting time by another week or two.

What is the point of a 1 year warranty when after 6 months they just repair the parts. Can you suggest something that I can try?

In my opinion they should have replaced my GPU and send in the faulty one to ACER. Make it their problem and not the customers.

I stopped using Sybaritic after having to deal with their "after-sales" support. Its non-existent.

This is the problem with our suppliers and retail outlets. We have Acer>supplier>sybaritic>you.

You have an contract with the retail store, by law they are responsible for the RMA procedure. However if the GPU is at acer you probably would not will not get it any faster.

The suppliers in SA drive up local prices and make rma's way more time consuming than it needs to be. Contact sybaritic and ask them to expedite the RMA as you feel they are being unfair in taking so long on a work pc.
