So I decided to start shopping around for a new provider for my LISP. (Which is with stanlib)

So reading up about Sygnia:
1. No annual fee charges if I only select Sygnia Unit Trusts
2. On ETF’s, a 0.20% admin charge
3. On non Sygnia funds, 0.40% admin charge

I read that some ETF combinations can be cheaper than the Skeleton 70 product

Stanlib came back to me (if I only select Stanlib funds, their eac is 0.48%). Awaiting for that list

Do my question for Sygnia clients:
1. Do I only do Unit Trusts?
2. Do I only do ETF’s?

My motto to build an investment with no annual fee, and a low platform fee.

I keep on getting this online: 0% pa fees for RAs, preservation funds or living annuity products.

I assume its related to unit trusts ONLY

So you don't have to choose between ETFs or UTs. Your investment account can contain a mix of both.

My same RA account has ETFs and UTs. Depending on what you choose, the admin fee on
n the Sygnia platform is constructed in the following way:

Sygnia UTs: 0%pa
Sygnia ETFs: 0,2%pa (0,1%pa if investments are > R2mil)

Other Asset Managers UTs: 0,4%pa (0,2%pa if investments are > R2mil)
Other ETF Providers: 0,4%pa (0,2%pa if investments are > R2mil)

So depending on the mix you use, the costs will differ. Please note the above costs are annual admin fee excl VAT. So you have to still take in account the relevant fund's TER and platform brokerage costs for total investment cost.

But a mix of Sygnia UTs and ETFs is a really smart way to go about building your own portfolio, and keeping costs low - if you do not want to use their Skeleton funds. I purely construct my own due to the fact that I can't make heads or tails on the passive strategy of the other affordable option Skeleton Funds.

Hope this made sense :)

Edit: Please double check the fee structure with Sygnia before deciding, the above is my understanding of their fees.. not advice, just my understanding.

I quickly compared the Sygnia Top 40 Unit Trust vs ETF.

The ETF is 50% cheaper even with a 0.20% admin fee.

So I am going for sure ETF's ....

May not be on topic but I sent a new application to Sygnia on 29th and so far have received 3 mails at different stages so I am aware of exactly where my application is. That is quite impressive so far - they almost seem to be matching coronation speed of processing.

Today the snr support officer personally called me. They dont know why no one repsonded yet to a simple request "give me a confirmation letter that my RA is increasing 10% from 1 July 2020". After 4 emails ... and then a hellopeter complaint, they quickly helped me.

Yeah their online Alchemy portal is also brilliant.

Sygnia is working on a new admin side also ... in my case / request -> Automatically get increase / info letters

So, it looks like Sygnia completed instruction in under 3 working days including pull from bank account so that is excellent. Now, waiting for login credentials etc.

*Sorry for attempting to hijack thread OP - but this could become THE sygnia thread?

Any idea how long it takes to get a user account with Sygnia? I registered last monday on https://www.sygnia.co.za/open-an-account and investment pull was completed on Thursday, 9th July.

Just checked and coronation had done everything at approximately same timeline as sygnia but coronation gave me user account on 4th day of registration But, that was pre-corona so maybe I am being harsh.

Do you mean an account on the Alchemy platform?

From the welcome pack, it takes a month to activate on Alchemy, then you can log in and see how the investment looks.

Thanks although I have no idea what alchemy platform is - just looking for normal account where I can login & see my investment details. If it takes one month that I vote Sygnia the slowest of the bunch. Even RSA retail bonds gave me account within 9 working days.

Yup, that's what you do on their Alchemy platform.

If you already have a client code you can register here with that https://online.sygnia.com/Alchemy/Account/Login else wait for the email. Took 12 workdays for me from using the Roboadvisor to getting the email.

Sho. Not sure what is happening with Sygnia admin. Sent mail [email protected] on Monday early morning but not even routine acknowledgement of email. I hope I am not going regret opening investment here.

Also, 14 working days passed since they pulled initial investment from my account. From initial first mail to that point was almost coronation like experience. Then, it seems to have gone downhill.

My signia Skelekton TFSA account is doing really well. Even with the Covid Ice-Berg....im up 12% since feb.

Now 12% does not sound like much, But it sure beats banks....
