This is true. A friend of my father's wanted a simple scooter to get around town with and everything from the Big Boys to the Moto Mias has given him trouble. Sure the Sym scooters aren't going to beat anything from Honda or Yamaha but they come damn close for a fraction of the cost.
I think if you really don't have the money for a big name brand then get a Sym brand new or with relatively low kms. If you can find a decent bike from a big name brand in good nick with lowish kms at a good price then go for it. All depends on what is available really.
