Sync at 16Mbps: New Telkom System?

Hi Everybody,

Does anyone know whether it is possible to sync at 16Mbps on a Telkom DSL Line?
Last year, when attempting to, my router would not connect as it could not reach the full 20Mbps... but instead only 16.

My line is capable of 18Mbps - so I was wondering whether I could sync at a speed between 10Mbps and 20Mbps, where as before I could not.

My area I got moved from 14-> 10. Guess it depends on your exchange.

The up to 20Mbps Telkom profile will allow you to sync at the fastest speed nearest to 20Mbps that your line can handle, so yes it certainly is possible to do so. Perhaps your profile previously was VDSL rather than ADSL which is why the router could not sync? You can get 20Mbps ADSL these days.

Yea back then I had to try with a VDSL router - however now ADSL works just fine

Right now - my main issue is trying to get my line to sync at 10Mbps again. My stats are perfect, but it refuses to budge from 8Mbps. Anyway - I've got the tech guys working on that

I'll carry on dreaming haha

Can you tell me how you got them to work on it??

For 2 months now, my line which was perfectly synced fine on 10, is now running between 6-8mbps.

ADSL 2 router can sync at 24Mbps. This is international standard.

Reported it to Afrihost, they agreed that it should be syncing higher according to my stats - and they escalated it to telkom technicians

Yup! My stats only allow 18mbps though... But in the past, telkom would force it to 20Mbps and therefore stop it syncing altogether. That has apparently changed now!
