Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a tablet for kids, or should I get a normal entry level tablet with a protector and just run it in parental mode?

My kid is almost 2 and I want her to be exposed to many things as a child, so that she knows how they work, so she never has to struggle trying to learn things. I also wanna get her some STEM toys, but idk if she's too young for that.

Or should I just leave her and have her naturally learn how to use one as she's older, as she will inevitably get a phone/etc eventually

It is never too young for STEM toys. There are age appropriate ones. On tablet for kids I can make some suggestions based on how strong they are and specifically designed for kids but as to whether you want your two year old to already start using so much screen time is a personal decision. Like all things there are pros and cons. The Leap Tab range is great for kids, the Amazon tablets kids versions are also great and even an iPad with the right protective cover works well.

We bought a Fire Tablet when our kid was 2 and he is still using it 4 years later. He doesn't use it a lot though - in the beginning I thought the experience frustrated him, but turns out he is just not very big on screen time. That said, at the Fire's price point I can definitely recommend it!

Kindle fire kids tablet.
You have to jump through hoops to get the best content (sign up for prime with foreign credit card) but this is what my daughter uses for her kids and they work well and have good parental controls.

Kindle Fire HD 8" 32GB Kids Edition Tablet with Green Cover

My honest opinion? Keep her off the electronics until she's older. She won't lose out. They are bad for kids eyes especially if used too much. If you have to get one, make sure you ration it. Kindle fire let's you set times for on and off.
These are great although the screen brightness and speakers could be better.

Note that they do come with ads, bloatware and no Google play store. Once you update it you can no longer use Firetoolbox to remove lock screen ads. Perhaps Samsung T220 is a better option...

2nd hand iPad gen 6 or 7. We got those for the kids and they were cheap and work absolutely perfectly.. use carbonite or fb marketplace to find one....Always lots for sale....

My kids are homeschooling, and we are looking at getting 2 tablets, to replace all the hard copy textbooks.
Recommended minimum specs are 1.7 Ghz quad core processor, with 4GB Ram.
This one below tick all the boxes, and fits the budget as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

You can also limit their use/access to nasty stuff with a kiosk app on the tablet. I don't know if you get something similar for Apple though

No offense, but I think she's way too young. I wouldn't bother. When she is much older, she can just use your phone from time to time. They catch on VERY fast, so don;t worry about her falling behind.

To remove the ads, I mailed Amazon support to remove as those ads are not applicable in RSA . Though this may change in a few months. The Samsung A8s are also good.

What I did with the fire tablet was sideload Google playstore and have full access. Kids use teams, Tello apps, Minecraft etc

I don't think they will remove it.

I removed it with Fire Toolbox. But if you update the tablet, you can no longer use this method.

I haven't seen a 4gb ram version locally, only 3gb.
