Hey guys, I'm not sure what tablet I can buy that would allow me to read my e-books easily and comfortably (I'm upgrading from a Vodafone/Vodacom Smart TAB 3G from 2012/2013), the tablet should be affordable as well (under R3450).

Thanks in advance for the help!

Kind Regards

What about a proper eReader? They are MUCH better for reading because they don't flicker or anything. Much easier on the eyes.

But, none of them support colour. Tablets would be better for magazines, comics etc, while eReaders like the Kindle and Kobo would be better for all other books.

I only have programming/technical books and some AOT manga but that's pretty much it. I'm hesitant to buy a dedicated eReader tho, cause I want to be able to use the device in question for other things as well and not just reading (maybe some games or streaming).

I prefer reading reference books like programming technical books on physical paper, but that is just me.

I'd recommend the Amazon Fire tablets because I think they are good value for money, but, they might be difficult to get hold of in SA. What does TakeAlot have in your budget?

I have a Lenovo Tab 4 8" and it's still going strong after a few years. Excellent battery life, sound, etc.

The later version is this, I think:

Obviously you likely won't get many security or OS updates, but that seems to be standard for many Android devices here in SA.

Well, I am considering the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8" (R2,499) but I'm still looking around for more options.

Will check it out

Not sure if I'm crossing a line here, stop me if I am. Looking to sell my Samsung Tab A8. I find it a bit slow for my use, so want to get another rather.

It's fine bruv, but sorry when it comes to electronics I'm hesitant to buy secondhand.

I am also considering getting a tablet for reading E-books. I am currently looking at the Huawei MediaPad T5 10. It has a 10.1" screen display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200. This particular model also comes with 3GB memory and 32GB storage . It only runs Android 8 but that's okay for my purpose. Has some good reviews on Youtube.
At R3299 it is the cheapest I have seen with this spec. (There is a slighly cheaper model with 2GB memory and 16GB storage)

If your books are in epub format, definitely go with a Kobo ereader. The e-ink screen is easy on the eyes and you have the freedom of being able to load any book via USB.

Kobo supports PDFs and comic book formats as well, but for PDFs I often find that a tablet works better.

The Kobo Clara used to go for around R2k.

Does it have google services or is it one of the newer Huawei devices that do not have Google services on it?

Try to get the M5 instead. Much nicer screen. Obvious price diff though

This tablet was released in July 2019 so it was before they were stopped from using Android. From some of the videos I've seen it does have the Google play store.

Ok, so these tablets are what I could scrounge up from Takealot. Regardless of price, which of these four tablets offer the best value and features?
