Takealot has a problem with 3rd party sellers.

Bought a solar panel 2 years back, it has exact dimensions to fit in my Window, but they did not have 2 of this item.
I waited a bit and re-ordered the same SKU (Item) - what was delivered is a totally different item dimension-wise.
Sent it right back as I took it off the truck.
Turns out, supplier changed - I was pissed off, cause now I cannot find that palen again as the seller dissapeared.

Wish there was a way to contact sellers. Sometimes have a query like that and there's no way to find out other than to buy and hope for the best.

What does the umbrella look like that got delivered from TA. Im looking at getting one
Its not bad. It can close automatically which was the main thing that I wanted. But it doesn't have a "double bone" frame.

The point is that you wont know if you'll get the same one that I did, someone even got one with a flashlight in the handle so its like a lucky packet with the 3rd party sellers.

Apparently what happens is dodgy third-party sellers hijack the popular listings of their competitors without actually having the exact same item but because soo many people won't know the difference or will be too lazy to return it they still profit.

I had this with backup lights. I ordered a Magneto rechargeable lantern.

The listing said Magneto, the images showed Magneto, but EasyMart and Takealot ended up sending me a different branded lantern. The listing is still active, but with a different 3rd party seller.

Takealot did collect the the package and refund me easily enough, but it I should have received the correct item in the first place.

Yeah that's my thought as well as in the OP form 2022. It seems like takealot has done nothing to solve this problem since then.

In November 2024 I bought a Samsung phone from Takealot, which seems to have been sourced from a reseller. 3 weeks ago both MTN and Vodacom blacklisted the phone, with MTN stating:

"The device was purchased from an unauthorized third-party reseller. Because of this, the device remains MTN’s property and reserves the rights of the device. Unless the reseller can provide proof of purchase from MTN or one of our authorized third party partners, the device will unfortunately remain blacklisted, as we are unable to verify how an MTN device was sold through an unauthorized seller".

I contacted Takealot now, but I guess this won't be resolved :-(

They will give you a refund. Just log a return and refund in your takealot account.
No refunds, they just credit your account. They don't won't allow you to spending your money anywhere else!

Eish so its the schlep of cleaning the phone before returning it :-(

Plus I mislaid its original box, can't find it anywhere

I emailed them to ask to confirm whether the reseller is unauthorised - I guess I should wait for their confirmation before I return the phone?

Not trying to be cynical, but I am quite sure that you will have issues returning a phone to Takealot purchased November 2024, which is more than a year ago. Unless you intended to say you purchased it Nov 2025?

You probably right...but order is dated Nov 2024.
I cannot understand why MTN blacklisted the phone only now?

I guess Vodacom would be able to issue a document showing that the phone's IMEI is linked to my ID number...

Ah I missed the date. And usually they just give 6 months on these phones.

Probably stolen stock and MTN only got around now after investigating missing stock.
