So I need some advice here.

I purchased an electric toothbrush on special just under 2 years ago.
The brush has a 2 year warranty.

The brush stopped working so I sent it back to TAL and chose the option of “repair or replace”.

Without any communication they simply refunded me the purchase price.

Now I cannot replace that model at the seme price 2 years later so this is why I wanted a repair.

When I raised a query I was told that the item is out of stock (of course it’s probably a redundant model).

I know that many suppliers are able to replace a discontinued model with an equivalent current model (mostly just esthetic changes and model number are the case)

However TAL refuse to budge and insist that all they can do is credit my my original purchase price.

How can I take this up further.

Take it further to where? I would take the refund and get something else on Black Friday.

For me, they have refunded (instead of repairs) higher value items like vaccum cleaner, so it is highly unlikely that they will repair a toothbrush

Repair costs are often prohibitive so it makes sense for them to write it off and refund you the money.

Thats how many places do it. They just refund you, sometime you win sometimes you lose.
I once got a refund from Game on a broken Microwave. They had the exact model on the floor, but did not exchange, they refund/credit voucher only. But that model was then on special and I saved almost R500 to buy something extra

The other day they sent me the wrong CCTV camera sold by a 3rd party. Was incorrectly labeled. So I chose the replacement option thinking that they would send me the correct one. A couple of days later I noticed they gave me a credit so I had to order the right one again. Why not just send it to me after you have concluded your inspection of the returned item?

Please note warranty and guarantee are two different things.

Guarantee is full refund

Warranty is not. Its based on useful life left. For example you buy a bed R10k (10 year warrenty) you use it 5 years and need it replaced you will only get R5k. You were lucky to get the full amount and I dont think anyone here thinks they did you in.

Help us out here:

a) If there is no stock how can they replace it with same model?
b) If there is no stock how can they repair it?

You got a full refund after 2 years of use.

Tell me again how you are the victim here of dirty play.
Probably the only way to fix it is refunding. This isn't a new practice whereas replacement if possible or refund is the cheaper route.

Is this like a R25999 toothbrush that you got on special for something like R21999, or one of those R 299 ones, that you got for for R270?

Get scrapy first, because black friday on takealot is a hoax.

Lack of self-awareness and sense of entitlement is amazing
